After 6 Games, Panthers can throw it and not much else

I respectfully disagree. The offense has been performing well enough to win, and they'll only get better with a healthy Cam and some more experience. Admittedly, while I think it would be awesome to draft Todd Gurley, we might need to focus on the D again. Right now if the D was performing up to last year's standard we'd probably be Super Bowl favorites.

Yeah but I think it has to be a balance. I think we need to find an eventual replacement for Thomas Davis and we need a high end safety. Cam needs protection as well. Cam brings so much to the run game that regardless of who you line up in our back field you have to be honest. I believe the Panthers can get away with serviceable running backs if our offensive line is top notch. Let me be clear about my serviceable comment. Fozzy Whittaker is serviceable and possibly a hidden get if healthy. Darin Reaves is not.

Not hard to believe our running game is so bad given our top 3 backs are injured. I doubt our passing game would be so great if Olsen Benji and Avant were all injured for several games.

As for the defense it requires everyone to tackle well and be where they are supposed to be.  While some fans think it is all Hardy being gone most folks in the know realize that several veterans like Davis for example played at a very high level last year and are frankly struggling this year.  Our safety play and corner play are very suspect and inconsistent.  We have also had a number of penalties which have extended drives and resulted in points for the opponent.  The reality is that we have the guys right now to be a top 10 defense but they are not all playing consistently.  One or 2 missed assignments are resulting in big yards being surrendered especially on the ground.

I agree we need to address DE and LB depth issues.  I don't think we need to dedicate a 1st rounder to a safety though.  We never have other then TD.  We might need to upgrade over Harper and Decoud but I don't it's takes a 1st to accomplish that.

So after six games played this is how our team stacks up.

30th in rush defense

28th in total yards

After ALL the attention to detail, money, draft picks we spend on our defense, in particular our d-line and linebackers....

this is what we have to show for it? Heaven help us, I know that our division is really bad, but can we actually make the playoffs with a defense that awful?

This is almost (almost) as bad as the Rams having 5 first round picks on their front line and only have 1 sack to show for it.

What is up with people and wanting to draft Todd Gurley

I like everything about him as a running back except for one thing, he seems to be a bit injury prone.  I also question why the UGA coaches don't ride that hoss more than they do (they give a LOT of his carries to backups).  Do they think he's prone to injury too?  And try to limit his carries?
