I like McCoy's attitude about it. If people, including fans players and coaches, don't like it, it's their problem, not his. It could even work in his favor- 'Gerald won't hit me hard. He's a nice guy'.

Back in my playing days whenever I knew some guys playing on the other team I would help them up.  I'd also hit them as hard as I could.

Gerald Mccoy misses a game and the Bucs gave up a quarter billion points in the first half to the Falcons.  All their "asshole" players who were probably critical of him were there though, so I'm sure they have a point about being an asshole on the football field.

I like seeing players help each other up. Same as when a player gets hurt, they all acknowledge it.  When Cruz went down for the year, eagles players were as concerned as giants players. It adds a sense of humanity to an otherwise brutal and unforgiving game.

 

I've also heard of players helping the other team up, only because it lets the other player know they got put on their ass. lol
