Burfict Fined; No Suspension

You can't suspend this incident, because then every team would be crying wolf on every tackle around the legs.  It would set a bad precedent.  He got a decent fine and will be watched under the microscope from here on out.  That's all you can really expect in this situation.

This is wrong. These weren't isolated incidents at the bottom of piles where nobody could see them or just the result of tackling low. There was clearly premeditated intent (two guys with ankle injuries) and a self-consciousness towards what he was doing (clearly is trying to get away with it by not overdoing it, just little twists that he could argue were just part of the tackle). The league has taken away the players' ability to self-police and self-enforce this crap, so now it's the leagues responsibility to protect the players against it.

25k is also not a decent fine when you make millions.

I think that he will probably not do something like this again, at least not for a while, because he seems to be aware of the fact that he could get in trouble for it. That's great. The problem I have, is that it does absolutely nothing to deter other players from the same kind of behavior.

Against Peyton or Luck and he would have been suspended. Period.

That's what I've been thinking about, I mean, can you even imagine the media outcry if he had done this to Peyton Manning?  It would be the #1 story on SC, NFL Live etc.  The backlash would have forced Goodell to suspend him, because, you know, that's how the NFL works now.

Imagine if Peyton, with his neck issues, had someone pushing his neck while down on the ground....

It would be all day coverage until he was suspended. Then again, this is one of the dudes they literally rewrite the rules for

About what I realistically expected

Yea just about what I expected

Suspension was a long shot so I'm not shocked

You can't suspend this incident...He got a decent fine...That's all you can really expect in this situation.

What?!?!

This is total horsecrap. Goodell laid the hammer on the Saints for laying hits on Brett Favre that were completely within the rules of on-the-field football, resulting in:

-LB Vilma suspended for a whole season

-DT Hargrove suspended 8 games

-DE Smith suspended 4 games

-LB Fujita suspended 3 games

meanwhile, you have Burflict trying to twist the ankles of two key Panthers players, one coming off ankle surgery, which is completely NOT within the rules of on-the-field football, and he doesn't get suspended a single game?!?!

Seriously WTF is going through Goodell's head?!?!

In 1986, DE Charles Martin was suspended 2 games for body-slamming Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon

in 2006, DT Albert Haynesworth was suspended 5 games for stomping on Dallas Cowboys lineman Andre Gurode

in 2011, DT Ndamukong Suh was suspended 2 games for stomping on Green Bay Packers lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith

in 2011, LB James Harrison was suspended 1 game for a violent tackle on Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy

in 2012, LB Joe Mays was suspended 1 game for a hit on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub

in 2013, DE Antonio Smith was suspended 1 game for removing and swinging Miami Dolphins lineman Richie Incognito's helmet

in 2013, S Brandon Meriweather was suspended 1 game for repeated violations of the league's helmet-to-helmet policy

in 2013, LB Erik Walden was suspended 1 game for headbutting Delanie Walker

This year, S Brandon Meriweather was suspended 2 games for an illegal hit on Baltimore Ravens WR Torrey Smith

And Burflict for trying to twist the ankles of TWO players??? Nada!!!

No place for it. NFL campaigns for player safety and this is clearly an issue.  He could have hurt somebody.  Shoot he still can hurt somebody.  I hate to say this, but I have a feeling something drastic will have to happen for them to start suspending guys.

No, that's not all we should expect.

There are players out of the league for a year for smoking weed, but we shouldn't expect a suspension for purposely trying to hurt someone? Not even 1 game?

And before everyone chimes in with the old "yeah, but smoking weed is illegal, so that's different", last I checked trying to injure someone is not legal either.
