Wife and I are talking about retiring to the coast of Portugal.  Well, I'm about 35% there on the convincing.

For a tourist perhaps.  I lived there for 3 years.  For a twenty something living there, Oahu is the only place to be.

Kauai is the "garden island". Small, quiet, not that many tourists, beautiful, has a tall mountain that gets some of the most rainfall in the world, and amazing locals.

Of the other islands, I preferred the Big Island.  Fewer tourist and some very unique geographical feature, and a live Volcano.  You can even snow ski there at times. 

 

And it tends to be a little cheaper than the other islands, at least the hotels are anyway.

Yeah it's very nice as well. The only issue is the size. You can drive Kauai in an hour. You can't loop it though thanks to a jungle. But I'd imagine getting around the Big Island would take a long time.

I still like Maui.  Been there twice, big island once, and Oahu twice.  I know it can be crazy touristy but I like it for some reason...especially the road to Hana.
