Thomas Davis on Tie

Some people act as if the coach must have the same emotional response they have as a spectator. You see this all the time. Reality is, we won't get the privilege of seeing how he coaches after this result. I've always gotten the impression he's tougher and passionate away from the podium. The press conferences are informative, but I never expect the whole picture. That's why I just shrug when he says he won't treat it as a loss. Aside from it being an accurate assessment of the result, who knows if that even means anything to the locker room. If the question is worded differently, he might respond that he isn't treating it as a win either.

Bottom line is the D played like poo.  Like TD said, if the O puts up 37, there's no reason not to win.  Sure you can pin this tie on rivera's decision making, but the D's poor play put us in the position to lose/tie.  The D did not put this team in position to win.

if it's not one thing, it's another with some of you.  if we go for it on 4th and fail, you'd second guess that call, too.

I didn't get to watch the game but I was able to check the score on NFL.com at work periodically. I remember checking on the last TD we scored and I thought hell yeah we are gonna win. Then I saw the KR for 97 and was like FUG. Next time I check the game we are in overtime and I see the refs threw a flag to put Cin at our 31. All I thought was of course leave it to the fuggin refs to cheat us out of another game.

Thankfully he missed the kick. I don't have to actually watch the play to know the penalty was BS. Karma stepped in for us. A tie is better than a loss.

How? doesn't a tie count as a .5 game?

I remember reading an article two years ago on NFL.com stating that in the event of tie record in a division or wildcard race, a draw is counted against.

A tie is counted as half a win, and half a loss. If we are 9-6-1 and the Saints are 9-7, by virtue of having 9.5 wins we would hold the tiebreaker.

Yeah, it counts as half a game... but in the scenario you laid out, if the Saints finish 9-7 and we finish 9-6-1, we win the division.

9.5 wins > 9 wins

6.5 losses > 7 losses

A tie isn't a loss.  It just isn't a win either.  It's pretty much like we didn't even play this week if anything.

9-6-1 vs. 9-7 aren't tied records though. Look at it it terms of win percentage, with ties counting as half a win:

9-6-1: 0.59375

9-7: 0.5625
