I don't really know what the point of this thread is. Tre Boston, Bene, and Josh Norman would all be playing if healthy. When they are ready to go, they will play. I know Tre suited up for the first time on Sunday but he's still a rookie that missed the majority of camp and several weeks of the season.

 

But Ron is going to put out a lineup he feels can win. Look at this from coach Ron's perspective. This is the best record through 6 games in his coaching career. He's first place in the division and no one in the NFC South looks unbeatable. He's not thinking about 2015. He's thinking about 4-2-1.

I asked myself this same question when I saw Jones blow by him.  Maybe he's filling in or an injured Bene?

 

Josh Norman is a big part of special teams as well. That sucked but to be honest I think of it as a blessing. They scored quick and gave Cam time to respond. If they started on the 20 they could have ran the clock out and scored. They basically did whatever they wanted on offense.

When a team has very little pass rush and a slow secondary,it's a recipe for failure. I would venture to say most of the secondary will be gone next season. Bene,Boston,Norman should be on the field as soon as they HEAL and should be worked in as starters. Let them cut their teeth this year and see what they got. This team needs to develop a core in the secondary and can not clean house every year. The secondary has to play soft and off the recievers due to lack of speed and closing ability. Watching them get sliced up week after week is painfull. The free fall of this unit has been sad. Time to get the young guys in there and let them develop. Can't be much worse then what they have right now.

 

Only thing is that Norman, Bene and Boston are not really speedsters either (or Lester), so compound that with a lack of experience and we may be worse off than before.  Yeah we could push the envelope, but it would be a big risk.  Youthful exuberance may give us a lift though. I guess we could try it gradually, and see what happens.

Tre Boston ran a 4.59,40 while injured at the NFL combine compared to the other top two safeties,Ha Ha Clinton Dix and Calvin Pryors time of 4.58,thats pretty good speed for a saftey.He also,has a knack for getting after the football,since he recorded 94 tackles and 5 picks while playing his senior season with the tarhells once again injured.also,DG took this kid alot higher than most projected in the 4th,so dont be surprised too see him get faster sideline to sideline and be in the starting lineup, once he becomes acclimated with the speed of the NFL.

I agree,i allmost wish Colin Jones didnt catch PacMan Jones on the 2 because of the clock issue and Harper looked completely out of his realm of expertise or just simply put didnt belong on special teams during that particular play.

We're looking at the problems in the secondary backwards. There's no team in the league that can cover all options for more than six seconds when an NFL caliber quarterback has a clean pocket and time to make reads. The bigger problem is a lack of pressure on the quarterback. Charles Johnson isn't getting the pressure he needs. K. Short is getting some push up the middle but we need more from the other tackles. Star has been practically invisible this season and I know he's more of a run defense guy but even there. Has he made a single play this season? Dwan doesn't look as explosive as he has in years past. And Wes Horton is just terrible. Flat out terrible. If Addison could play the run, Horton wouldn't be on the field. Ealy is still incredibly raw and he shouldn't be expected to be ready but he's not offering much either.

 

If we're going to get better on defense we're going to have to try some unconventional blitzes. We're not getting pressure with four down. It's time to start sending TD and Luke after the quarterback a little. Perhaps some blitzes from the secondary too. Roman Harper has traditionally been a good blitzing defensive back but we haven't used him that way because we're playing scared. Last year we saw all kinds of exotic blitzes to confuse the protection. Captain off the edge and linebackers sent in. Hardy alone isn't the reason we're not getting the same pressure. It hurts, but we're playing more conservative defense.

 

If you're going to give up chunks of yardage, why do you have to lose by blitzing? We couldn't stop the Bengals without A.J. Green from moving the ball on us at will in the passing game. Our secondary sucks but we KNEW it sucked. The plan wasn't to allow QB time enough to expose them because of the pressure. It seems like now we've given up on the idea and are trying our best to call vanilla defensive packages. Running nickel as our base defense and trying to play match up with all the passing options. It's not going to work. Somebody springs free every time because our linemen are playing terrible on third down.

 

I would rather give up 10 yard gains and put the QB on his back every play than give up 8 yard gains and have the QB walk off the field at the end of the game with a clean jersey. Look at how much Cam gets hit per game. In this league if you don't put the QB on his ass once every three or four dropbacks you're going to get picked apart.

Blitzes are a high risk big reward type of play and are even riskier whenever you have a weak secondary.the DL is what made our defense so effective last year because we could get pressure on the QB while staying in zone coverage and didnt have to rely on blitzing.

I agree they have looked horrid but come on we are still leading the division and hopefully they come together.  This isn't a typical Rivera defense and I expect things to turn around soon.  Hopefully, they tread water long enough until Hardy gets back (which I believe he will) Then possibly make a run for the division title.
