Cotch Killed Us

Is it just me, or does it seem like everything in the passing game comes off the right arm of Newton. With few exceptions...here and there...if Cam throws the ball 10 yards and the WR catches the ball, the Panthers get 10 yards.

Cam had 280 yards passing, and 265 of them was through the air.

Lord, Benjamin can even turn a critical 3rd down throw into 1 yard.

Jesus, this offense needs play makers, and they need them BAD.

Perhaps you are being facetious, but that is certainly not true.  Olsen alone ran 10-15 yards on his td catch. And KB made several great catches in traffic.

All we here about all offseason are how "sure-handed" our new vet recievers are, and he had 2 huge drops, including the game winner. Disappointed with his performance today. Also, Reeves is trash, but the rest of the offense looked great.

That catch should have been made, but it was not the easiest of them all to make.  I was more disappointed with the play after that when it was 3rd down.  KB should have gone to the first down spot and then ran the route he did.

That's all Cam did last year and nothing has changed.

All that matters is we know what kind of talent he is and it's now a matter of keeping him here and giving him more protection and talent at the skill positions.

Not really the defense was the story last year.

Yup not much YAC potential from anyone...

I read these posts and wonder if some of you even watched the game or if you are such huge homers you are unable to objectively watch the game.

Wow, you sound like one helluva fun guy to go to a game with.

Nowhere in the dictionary is "objective" found in the definition of "fan".

But knock yourself out, Mr. Spock. Kirk and Scotty always had more fun anyway.

Cotchery has been great for us all year. Cotchery is who he is, a solid NFL wr, nothing more, nothing less. For you guys to ask him to come down with every catch is unrealistic, because he wont. You can't blame him for the loss. If anyone,  blame our kicker for being lazy on a kickoff and missing a fg.

AGreed, but it also means the OC's not getting the receivers in space to run after the catch as well.

Right. I am not sure who fault it is, it could be partially Cam's because really for the better part of the last 3 years it doesn't seem we get much YAC. But from what I can see it doesn't seem as though WR are making ridiculous catches all the time and on slants I see Cam hitting them in stride. But yet nothing. I do know that Cam tends to throw high in past years so there is that, but still even when he is right on, we don't do a good job at all of getting YAC.

Our OC rarely seems to get them into space, but even when we do...nothing.

I cannot tell you how many times Olsen has been in space and he gets maybe 2 yards. Benji was in space on that 3rd down and he gets nothing today.

We need some play makers on this offense, or at least develop some crossing routes. Who knows maybe the coaches are telling them to get down after the catch as not to fumble.

All good points. And you're not going to always Get Yac on quick throws, unless you truly have playmakers.

Olsen's a give, though he did have some Yac today. Normally, he doesn't run for much.

However, if the OC can fool the defense on the opposite side of the field, the WR's and backs have to pick up some yardage as the defense has two swing back to the other side of the field.

Unfortunate, Shula's not creative enough to fool the defense in space.

Hopefully, Philly Brown and Benjamin can help alleviate this. Wouldn't expect much after the catch with Cotch and Avant.

    • Hey guys, remember when we won those meaningless games in 2010 and it cost us the #1 pick and the chance to draft Cam? Oh.... right I get that's more of an extreme example because it got us a HOF caliber QB.  But it's the general concept, you want to win late season games when you have the pieces in place to make a run the next season, we currently are not in that place. Herbert and Sewell are the ones I point to so much, because we literally lost out on 2 franchise different makers by 1 draft slot.  Give us those two players while we still have CMC, Moore, and the rest of the picks we gave up for Bryce, and we'd have been a legit playoff contender the last few years. Draft position matters in the NFL more than any other sport (other than the #1 pick in the NBA in a year with a generational talent).
    • It’s so crazy. If we had a shot for pick 1 and there was some generational player there then yeah maybe I could get behind the draft position argument. I’d say most GMs and coaches aren’t diving into the draft right now. They are trying to win games.
