Why has Midwood Smokehouse not getting any mentions? That place has a 30+ minute wait almost every time I go. And it's worth the wait.

It had really got a lot better. It stumbled coming out of the gate though.

Not sure if this has been mentioned; I glanced through the pages rather quickly.  

 

The Q-City Charlotte BBQ Championships are going on this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 17th and 18th).  While you cannot eat the competitor's BBQ (health regulations), there will be a bunch of restaurants with booths where you can try their food.  I've never been, but it sounds like it will be a lot similar to Taste of Charlotte.  The competition winner gets to represent Charlotte at the Memphis competition.

Event Schedule: 

The Charlotte Blues Society Main Stage cranks up around 5:00 pm on Friday with Jive Mother Mary. Come back by on Satuday for the Charlotte Blues Society band competition featuring nine of the top regional groups. The top three bands will face off in the final challenge later in the afternoon. At 6:30, we crown our Pitmaster Champions in the Peoples’ Choice and NCBBQA Categories.

I've never been but I read that they are expecting around 100k people. That's a lot of people in a small area. Can definitely see why it has a tailgate atmosphere.

Most North Carolina bbq restaurants use ketchup as a base for slaw. It's not very rare. It's called "BBQ slaw" or "red slaw".

 

RO's in Gastonia, has best BBQ slaw , it is nothing like those red slaw offerings.
