Cam v. Luck - The "Build Around" Philosophy

I love the rebuttal to our shitty line is "who would you have signed?". Then your answers get nit picked. How about linemen that aren't complete poo? That's a start. We could've signed at least 3 solid linemen with that money.

The reason we can't replace our Running Backs is because we've committed money to them long term. Why make that mistake again?

"Solid" unrestricted free agent lineman don't sign 1 or 2 year deals. We would have overpaid and over committed.

I think you are exaggerating how bad our line is as well. They are probably 20th, not 32nd. We might have done better than Chandler but Bell is probably better than every free agent tackle in 2014.

If you're going to commit a little money on offense other than QB, it's the line. The line is the 2nd most important aspect on offense. So you'd rather have a shitty line than commit to someone? And yes our line really is bad. Look at all the RBs they've gotten hurt. Look at how they've gotten Cam hurt on plays.

But every week? It's really strange.

Its not all that strange.  Luck is the guy that is most hyped on ESPN.  They claim he is the best young qb, so all the teams with young QB's compare their guy to him quite a bit.  Whether he really is or not is an opinion, but the comparisons are going to happen.

It is kind of funny though.  They can have the best young qb, I would prefer a superbowl trophy.

My answer to the "who would you have signed" question is: "someone better than Bell and/or Chandler". I mean, there can't have been many players worse, right?

The point of this thread is to compare what has been done offensively, i.e., nothing on our end. Did we have to franchise Greg Hardy? That's 13m right there. Could we have drafted more offensive linemen? Yes, absolutely. That's the point of this thread. We've given Cam almost nothing in 4 years. You can't tell me something couldn't have been done in 4 years?

the thing with greg is its 13 for just this year. we made no long term committment. some of those players you listed are just as bad as bell and chandler and they are less than half the cost. seriously. and they haven't been in this system for 4 years. others were so massively overpaid we couldn't match it.

i'm not oblivious to the problems at o line. and if you think gettleman is oblivious or is somehow too prideful i really don't know what else to say to you. i honestly don't think people realize just how bad our cap is.

we are what 16 million under the cap right now and next year were gonna be over by millions. LOL. that is insanity. i think DG really looked at it and said what can help us win right now the most without sacrificing the future. Before the hardy fiasco he decided keeping that monster front 7 and letting Cam be Cam would be enough to keep us competitive. It's sad but that is the state of the panthers organization.

it absolutely sucks cam doesn't have a decent oline and has UDFA for tackles. it's embarrassing. but you give the contract that the bucs gave that guy and have 6 million per year cap hit for 5 years and we can't afford that (and honestly it would have to ahve been more) that is unbelievable but it's reality. I honestly don't know what were gonna do. Next year? were still majorily cap challenged. This is going to be bad. But what's crazy. we're still a competitive football team.

as for the four years thing? i think we were a mess of an organization for the first two, these next two have been trying to stop the bleeding.
