Cam v. Luck - The "Build Around" Philosophy

This fanbase is delusional when it comes to an honest appraisal of Andrew Luck.

The Colts have a bad defense AGAIN, currently ranking 29th in total defense. At least they are consistent, though: they are 29th against the pass and 26th against the run.

The Colts have a poor to mediocre offensive line...Andrew Luck was sacked 3 times and took 8 QB hits last night...those would be season highs for Carolina's offensive line. The Colts averaged 2.7 yards per rush...again, terrible. They are averaging 3.7 yards per rush on the season...24th in the NFL.

The Colts are average at best at running back. Bradshaw is serviceable, but Trent Richardson is a joke, having averaged 3.07 yards per carry since being acquired.

TY Hilton is a nice young player, but let's be real, 1083 yards is his career high. He may well shatter that number this year, but Megatron he is not. Reggie Wayne has had a great career, but he is clearly a shadow of the player he once was. But the Colts do have Hakeem Nicks...LOL...the TE combo of Allen and Fleener is average at best. Greg Olsen would be scary on this team.

And yet, the Colts keep winning.

Luck is leading the league in total yards, yards per game and Touchdowns and doing it with the league's 7th best passer rating and 6th best Total QBR.

After 6 games Luck is on pace to throw for 5300 yards and 45 touchdowns. The guy has a shot at the all time record in both categories.

When you put up monster raw numbers with great efficiency on a winning team that has a questionable overall talent level, there is only one word available in the English language that accurately describes your level of play: ELITE

They keep winning because they keep playing the bottom of the barrel teams in their division.

This is just being realistic and honest. I think luck is a hell of a qb, but that team would be terrible in any other division and that's not all on luck.

Those three teams don't have a franchise qb. We have two elite ones. Those teams are fuging terrible

Building around him includes guys you keep as your core as well as those you add. Because you build differently if you have lots of good pieces already versus building it from the ground up.

Name the offensive weapons.....and core offensive talent built around Cam 4 years then.

I'll save you the trouble of mentioning Double Trouble bc having 2 top 10 cap RBs who underperform and handicap the team isn't building around a QB.

Adding Kelvin.....keeping Olsen and Kalil....and having the weakest OL in his 4 yr career isn't "building around your QB". Not if you compare it to a team like Indy that is building around their QB by adding steady young talent to grow along with their QB in an offense

Dude look at his stats vs the 3 divisional opponents they scored over 110 points in 3 games. They beat Baltimore by seven and they lost to the steelers and Denver.

110 points against some, if not the worst teams in the league and people wanna bring up MVP talks. That's crazy. He is overrated simply because of the media's "the legend grows" schtick. Luck is an absolute baller and I would love to have him, cam or rw as our qb. But this is starting to get ridiculous. They have the leverage every year and great gimme games within their division. That's not downplaying luck, that's downplaying that horrid division. They have also beat some good teams like sea, 9ers, Denver, ect. But this year that team looks dreadful

Luck has also one incredible advantage over Cam. He plays three teams twice each of the past three years that are all three still looking for a franchise QB. Also all suck on defense too.

Luck has thrown for 300+ yards in 7 out of his last 8 starts, twice in the playoffs, including 453 yards in a playoff win. 

 

The "weak schedule" mantra is simply desperation...my god, there are no easy wins in the NFL...not even Jacksonville.

 

Personally, I am new to the Luck bandwagon. I have been reserved in my attitude towards him the last two seasons...he put up good raw numbers, of course, but his accuracy numbers and Passer Rating were low...

 

That can't be said this season. There is MVP talk right now because it is deserved. If Luck keeps playing like this the rest of the year, he will finish with one of the two or three best seasons in the history of the NFL. And he will be the MVP.
