Cam v. Luck - The "Build Around" Philosophy

There's another thread on this forum that compares all the draft picks from the Colts during Luck's tenure versus draft picks for the Panthers during Cam's tenure?

Cam v Luck.

Cam v Luck.

Cam v Luck.

Carry on..I shouldn't have posted in here.  Sorry buddy.

Interesting thread at first and I agree that we haven't put weapons around Cam as many have said yet we have developed a kick ass defense until recently which also creates wins. The facts are these we are building differently then the Colts. They are trying to build through the offense and right now we are building through the defense. I truly believe the layout is the following....

A. Build a championship Caliber defense (check)

* I still see our defense as great. I think the Hardy thing really affected our team.

B. See Cam develop as a pocket passer

* IMO this has been his best season so far. He can't rely on his legs right now so he's making smart decisions.

C. Put weapons around a developed QB

* Come 2015/2016 a lot of Hurney money comes off the books or we can get rid of.

As teeray pointed out, comparing offensive weapons isn't really fair. A QB can still be built around with the defense as well. Cam has he best MLB and OLB in the league and one of the best DLINE, can Luvk

say that? And I don't think Olsen or KB, Cams top two passing choices, are worse than Lucks. If you want to argue ease of schedule, or success of schemes, can see that but a team is built to win games, not just offensive weapons for a QB.

Field position.

That was semi-sarcastic. Defense won't help them move the ball better, but field position makes it so you don't need to move the ball as far.

Also not having to play catch up keeps the offense from being forced into 1 dimension.

He has no idea what you're talking about.

All I know is is would take the panthers talent over the colts. Team wise.

I said it before we have done more for this TEAM with draft picks than the colts have. That colts team is poo. Giving cam an elite defense, based on cams talent alone, than giving him a poo defense is doing him more favors short term as well as long term than what the colts are doing right now with luck. But that is just my opinion.

I don't think Ryan Grigson is all that great a GM, honestly.

You don't need a Luck comparison to see that our FO has done a piss poor job building on offense through the draft the last several years.

Honestly there are simply too many front office cheerleaders here to have a real discussion about this anyway.

The "But Marty Hurney done stole our salary cap 3 years ago guys!" mantra we see parroted over and over has become more annoying than the "It is what it is" we heard for so many years from John Fox. Ironically, many people here routinely and blindly praised Hurney for his moves.

Also, as intelligent a man as Mr. Scot is, attempting to have a discussion with him about front office failures is entirely a waste of time.

This has kind of irritated me as well.. you have a freak of nature playing qb for your team yet you surround him with a majority of pedestrian players. I know that a great qb should make average wr's look great, but at least TRY and take the load off his shoulders.
