Cam v. Luck - The "Build Around" Philosophy

Except that wasn't the argument.

It is just hilarious the way huddle members will try to belittle other players accomplishments because of the inferiority complex over Newton.

Here is the reality: the Colt's overall schedule was just as tough as Carolina's (.484 compared to .494), the Colts beat more winning teams, had a higher win percentage against winning teams and won a playoff game, all while beating what most observers will admit were the 3 best teams in football last season. (Bronco's, Seahawks, 49'ers).

And they accomplished all this with a bad defense.

None of what I have said in this thread is an any way an attempt to belittle Carolina or Cam Newton.

Stop with the nonsense about Luck only accomplishing what he is accomplishing because the Colt's play a weak schedule.

It's baloney.

If Cam Newton were putting up Luck numbers playing the Wofford Terriers each week, you guys would be jizzing all over yourselves.

I have been talking about the Colts, not really Luck.

I have said several times that Luck is really, really good.  I also say that he is really, really overrated.  It is a critique over media more than Luck.

But the truth is, if you play in the AFC South and get to play the Raiders, and you are a good team.  You will win 10-11 games every year.

But if you look at the overall schedule, and take into account not just good wins, but bad losses also, it is pretty clear that the only major difference between them and the Panthers is the division they play in.

Thus division matters, which was my original argument.

In rounds back to Luck because guys who are determined to prop Luck up always revert back to win%, and then try to dismiss their weak division, and the curve they get as compared to teams in more competitive divisions.

Again, you swap Colts and Panthers and you likely see Panthers win AFC South every year, and Colts would have up and down years like we do.  There isn't a whole lot of separation between the two.  But the Colts win the AFC South just getting out of bed.

I mean, Mike Glennon would be the second best QB in the AFC South.

Division matters.

No one said division doesn't matter. I sure didn't. After all, 8 and 8 just might win the NFC South this season (an argument could be made that the NFC South is the worst division in football right now.

The argument was that the Colt's and Luck's accomplishments are somehow invalid because they happen, through no fault of their own, to play in the AFC South. That argument is baloney and it does not stand up to honest scrutiny.

Once again:

The Colts were 11-5 last season, they went 5-4 against teams with winning records, won a playoff game and beat the Seahawks, Bronco's and 49'ers in the process. They lost to one team with a losing record, St. Louis.

I guess all the Colts need to do to earn respect is go undefeated and win the Super Bowl.

Incidentally, here are the final actual strength of schedule standings for last years playoff teams:

K.C.     .445
G.B.     .453
Phi.      .453
Den.    .469
N.E.     .473
Cin.     .480
Ind.     .484
Sea.     .490
S.F.     .494
Car.     .494
S.D.     .496
N.O.    .516

You could build around both

Lucks team would be quicker at initial success because of lucks nfl readiness coming in

Cams team would take a little longer to consistently win because he needs to adjust but his teams potential is much higher than lucks.

Can has a legit top 3 arm. Toughest qb in the league behind a offensive line much worse than lucks, and we crew just as bad.

If cam ever gets a legit deep threat, this team becomes borderline unstoppable. Can is rapidly approaching luck in qb development

LOL

The Colts went 11 and 5, played .500 ball against playoff teams, won a playoff game and beat the two best teams in football along the way.

Exactly what do the Colts need to do to prove they are a good football team?

Go undefeated?

The Colts won their division last year at 8 wins. That should tell you all you need to know.
