Hornets vs. Wizards Preseason Game Thread

Don't think they would ever do this but seeing as how great the turnout was for this game I wouldn't mind seeing the entire home schedule as regional games. Smaller areas that don't get the NBA product in their backyard treat it as the only game in town and obviously are successful in promoting the game.

Plenty of areas around the Carolinas: Asheville, Raleigh, and now Greenville have hosted regional games. Why not Chapel Hill, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Charleston, Florence, etc?

A completely regional schedule is far too unnecessarily taxing on the players and coaches with constant travel but it would be neat to have a "Hornets Tour" of sorts.

Maybe a game or two but not many games... Its the Charlotte Hornets. Just Like the Panthers should be "Charlotte" but whatever lol

If they do some games away you better send the Canes down this way a few games but not if Cam Ward is in net....

Just to play a bit of devils advocate. Hornets playeg 11 guys an average of almost 22 mins. Wizards played 14 for an average closer to 16 mins with Beal Pierce Nene(dnp) and Humphries(dnp) combining for 19 mins total.

Hornets showed well but this isn't a game where you can truly judge individual player performance.

Expanding the fanbase is more important than civic pride. My point is we get them in Charlotte at least 41 times a year. I'd rather see Greenville or Asheville which doesn't have the opportunity to get an NBA product in its backyard have a solid turnout and maybe entice some citizens around the state to make the drive to Charlotte for a game or two.

And yes, the Canes have played preseason games at the Cable Box.

People all across Georgia, consider the Atlanta Hawks their team. They don't have to go to every other small town to win over fans. The Hornets shouldn't have to do that either across the Carolinas.

Are you suggestion that the Hornets consider moving some regular season games outside of Charlotte? No way. I'm from Virginia and a long time ago (really long), they ALMOST had a shot of landing a NBA team. This was when the ABA was on fire, and late of course it would merge with the NBA and a lot of those ABA franchises would become NBA franchises. Anyway, Virginia had a team called the Squires. SO, the Squires were stacked with talent - George Gervin and Julius Erving - they never became a hit. Why? Because ownership got greedy and wanted every piece of Virginia. They played some games in Richmond, some in Roanoke, some in Hampton, etc. At the end, nobody in Richmond felt like the Squires were there team, same thing with Roanoke and Norfolk... and nobody was happy.

The Hornets have had success as being the Charlotte Hornets. It work as it is.

I do agree that as far as preseason games, they should place a game or two in Asheville or Raleigh because that's a smart business move, but not in the regular season.

Why should they be the Charlotte Panthers?  Charlotte is a border city, get over it.

Without South Carolina, the Carolina Panthers wouldn't exist. They did a lot to help create this franchise. Changing the name to Charlotte would lose a lot of support this team gets here. And regardless of what people think, their are a good bit of panther fan in South Carolina.

You're absolutely right.  It's the preseason.  The preseason has less to do with who we're playing and more to do with how we're gelling as a team, conditioning, and learning the full playbook before the start of the regular season.  They showed us vanilla, and we showed them vanilla....we're in the same division.    You can gain some insight about our bench and their ability to win their individual matchups, and it's clear to me that investing in shooters is going to pay off.  Hornets went 10 for 20 from 3pt range last night.  They had less turnovers then WSH and out rebounded them.  You can take away something from the fundamentals in a game.

Here's a couple of things I was pleased with.

*  It's good to see all the work Kemba put in working on his shot translated to this game.

* Gary Neal, barring injury, could be the sixth man of the year.

* PJ Hairston is pro ready.  NBDL really accelerated his growth.

* MKG still isn't their with his shot, but the guy fills up the stat sheet.

* Al Jefferson had a nice game and he's looking to start the season in top form.

* Pargo came in of the bench and hit like 4 or 5 3's.  Finished with 15 points.

* Roberts from what I could tell by listening played smart and did a good job running the offense. The guy is a 94 percent free throw shooter.

If Charlotte is a "border city" then people from SC should have no issues with it. SC residents just want to act like their state is as relevant as NC. It's not.

Congrats to the Hornets on the win.

It is a border city.  Most people who are smart and work in Charlotte decide to live on the SC side because of lower taxes, cheaper gas, and better homes for the money.  I'd personally love it if Fort Mill, Tega Cay, and Rock Hill consolidated and became Charlotte SC, like Kansas City does.

SC has never done anything to NC, but NC has screwed SC plenty.  It's to a point where SC doesn't even bother chasing criminals who run up to NC because they've screwed us so hard before. They've stolen fresh water supplies, and hung us out to dry with the Nuclear waste program.  So if someone has 3 DUI's and a failure to pay child support let them live in NC with the rest of East Charlotte.  That's how Mint Hill was created.

I live in NC right now, and my wife and I decided that while it's a beautiful state, it's bankrupt, expensive, and income and property taxes sucks.  We can't wait to be back in SC in 30 days.

Don't get it confused I like Charlotte.  Lived there for years.  It's where my mom, brother, and sister live.

I just don't get the douchey NC superiority complex.  Personally I'd rather live in Charleston then any city in NC.

That's one of the reasons the ABA failed. The Carolina Cougars did that with Raleigh, Greensboro and Charlotte before moving to St. Louis.

And while your assessment is correct, I mentioned that they should do this for PRESEASON not regular season.

Preseason games don't matter, unless they're a chance for a small town in the area that doesn't get the NBA to see some NBA talent.
