Have you seen Cam Newton lately?

This has been Cam's most impressive season thus far to me. Still hasn't thrown a "bad" pick. Tipped passes suck but I don't really blame him for that.

He just had his most impressive come from behind victory with possibly the worst personnel of his career. I see Cam coming out of his shell as a person too. Sometimes the media rips him for it but he's handling it well.

I know a ton of people are mad about the offensive personnel. But we are inching closer to clearing a lot of dead money off our cap. It looks like we will shed 15m in dead money when the new league year hits. Restructures and expiring contracts will create space. Some players will become easier to cut while others will have big cap figures.

But cap space and draft picks are only useful if used well. We need to find a veteran tackle, serviceable guards, and young talent. Cam is proving he can perform without big name running backs. If we can get another young Wide Receiver and Tackle I really see the future as bright. I cannot wait to get the running backs off our books. Get young, hungry guys in there.

I know this isn't the gist of the article, but I just get furious when people bring up his supposedly "sophomore slump". His numbers were damn near identical and had a better record that year.

The media was waiting to tear Cam down. Every incomplete pass that year became proof that he was just another "Vince Young".  They couldn't wait for it. Especially since they had a new pet in RG3.

We've had 18 passes of 20+ yards this season, on pace for over 57. Last season we threw 33.

A play of 20 yards doesn't signal deep balls. Cam throws a tons of intermediate routes (his best throws). Those can go for 20+.

Only deep ball I remember this year was to KB. Maybe there was one to Avant or Cotchery. Cam hasn't done it hardly at all this year. Doubt someone could use there whole hand counting

Oh boy another Cam thread telling us what we already know.  I'm telling once he gets healthy and his O-Line gives him some time to throw, he's going to explode.  Only thing he's missing is a speedster deep threat like TY Hilton.  Hopefully Philly Brown can develop into that role.

How is Philly Brown going to develop speed that he doesn't have?

Sincerely,

The Eye Test

So who is going to be the first to call him on this?

" Cam Newton is a sure-fire bust. I am so certain of this that if he is thePanthers' starting quarterback in 2016, I will buy a Cam Newton jersey and stand in the stadium parking lot in my underwear when the Panthers come to Tampa Bay and hold a sign proclaiming that Auburn rules over Florida and Carolina rules over Tampa Bay."
