Are We Headed for a Fire Sale?

as long as G-man is GM we will always be headed for a fire sale.

I agree that he is thrifty and looking at the patriots way of managing the roster by buying low and selling high, I see where this way of managing can be quite successful.

The tough thing here is that our big contract players are all looking past their prime and a fire sale may be in order just to get them off the books sooner rather than later.

I do believe that our current team could get lucky this season and go out there, mess up and win the whole dang thing and I am still going to enjoy this season regardless.

It's hard to quantify your statement in terms of effect on our team. I mean, if a guy proves himself here, it means he had a successful season for us. The cost of that success in dollars and in terms of cost to replace that talent/performance has to be weighed as well.

This year's replacements in no order aka Harper, Benjamin, Philly, Jericho and Avant are performing admirably and have the full remainder of the season to prove themselves. So it's enjoyable to that effect of getting to see new players strut their stuff in our system.

I need to find the article but it was about EPL soccer teams and how the successful GMs run them. They treat it like its a Living Trust. They plug in a coach that fits the TEAMS philosophy. Not the coaches that comes and goes every few years. If we can get their then you will see sustained success.

Frank is much more likely to be back next season than Hardy IMO

Not with his suspension(s) issues....he's as good as gone. Hardy may well stay simply because his stock has likely taken a hit making him more affordable to us. Big Cat obviously wants him here, he was going to keep him on the field regardless of the pending charges before the shitstorm forced his hand.

In some ways that is a good sign. That means we are doing a good job of acquiring talent and developing it.

There is actually some correlation between teams that consistently receive compensatory picks and those that have sustained success.

We sure as poo had a dumpster with the WR corp. phase 1 complete.

Any early thoughts on how the draft position wise will look next season besides BPA?

I'm thinking

Round 1 OL

Round 2 LB

Round 3 WR/KR

Round 4 DB

Round 5 OL

Round 6 RB

Round 7 DB

I'm crushing on Jaxon Shipley right now, the WR/PR from Texas... Hopefully mold him into a Julian Edelman type meaning he plays slot & returns punts.

I'm not that familiar with him, what is his projected draft position?

I'm thinking heavy draft towards the OL as it is so tough to get linemen out of FA.

That's what I'm thinking too. I mean, why waste time with players that can be easily replaced with similar athletes who have something to prove or haven't had a fair shake for whatever reason?

Losing CJ, Godfrey, DLo and Stewart will put a 20 million cap hit for next season then would come off the books the following season. If we see another cap increase next season, that could make up for the big hit.

I'm still optimistic Hardy will sign a 3-year deal with us which would shore up our pass/edge rush for a Super Bowl run or two over his tenure. Again, I feel he's as valuable as any DE in the league.

That's another less favorable/savory way of looking at it, but if a guy hits his ceiling with us and is past or in his prime, at least we get that production at minimal cost.

I'm first and foremost a fan of the panthers as a franchise. What's good for the franchise and the product on the field is what I want. I like the brand. TD, Cam, Luke, Olsen, star, short, Benjamin and Hardy are the only players it would embitter me to see go somewhere else. They are the heart of the franchise as I see it and everyone else could come and go without me fretting.

Ginn and he is the one player I hated to see go. I'm a huge Smitty fan be We just couldn't afford to keep him and the locker room issues were just too much to stomach considering his actual production. We really miss Ginns ST ability more than we miss Smittys playmaking.

I know fire sale sounds extreme but it's in the best interests in my opinion.

A couple things.

Frank is cheap, and we need money for Cam and Kuechly extensions. Hardy, even discounted, will probably cost too much.

I think if we were planning on parting ways with Frank we would have cut him already.

They may very well both be gone, but Frank's chances of being here next season is higher than Hardy's.
