Are We Headed for a Fire Sale?

I want a paycut from CJ. Not a restructure.

And I'm not gonna be surprised if we draft a de in the first round next year.

NY model while GMan was there was to draft DE even when loaded with tons of holes elsewhere...

But our OL is a joke so I think we go OL, DE next year. Wouldn't be surprised if most of our top 5 picks were line players

Yea me either. I think ol/dl will be interchangeable though. Whichever talent is bigger at that pick.

I think the giants didn't draft a olineman in the first round for like 7 or 8 years but I could be wrong.

Hardy will be back but CJ is good as gone. When it comes down to the businesses of football that's how it pans out.

Was thinking this before the season.  But Hardy legal trouble changed that.

As far as core goes it is very small.

Cam

Luke

Kalil

Thats it for now.

Star is battling Short for a contract extension right now.

Johnson is battling Hardy

one of each stays the other walks and we draft a rookie to replace the other.  Case in point drafting Ealy this year he will replace either Johnson or Hardy.

Star allows the whole line to be better. No way we drop him over Short

Unless a Gettleman pick just can't get on the field I don't see how he lets any of his guys go. If we are going to make cuts, it should be to the players who received their post-rookie deals during the Hurney era.

CJ, Godfrey, DeAngelo, J-Stew among others

Olsen, TD and Kalil are part of that corps too but their performance at least provides a decent ROI on their contracts. Kalil has been a minor concern but I attribute that to poor play from the entire line around him.

Outside of Kugbila and Barner who has already been jettisoned none of the Gettleman picks strike me as players that he wouldn't try to bring back (jury is out on Amini right now.)

Also have to take into account the TV deal on the horizon which is sure to blow the 20 billion dollar one the NBA just got from ESPN/Turner out of the water and provide cap strapped teams like the Panthers more space to make necessary deals.

Making the tough decisions to cut Steve Smith and leave the team barren on offense this season will help avoid having to blow the whole thing up before it gets started.

They got Snee and Beatty in round 2 but that is about it

Most posters here believe Hardy will be gone because of his off-field transgressions. On most teams this probably isn't an issue, but as long as the Carolina faithful and the management of the team think they can build a winning franchise with a locker room full of Boy Scouts... keep pounding.

I personally think the team needs a couple "bad boys" just to keep an edge. Look, this team has the personality of a cardboard box. Jerry Richardson and Ron Rivera could be standing side by side on a street corner and watch one of their dogs get run over by a car right in front of them and you won't see any expression.

So if you're keeping score at home, the Hardy topic has now gone from "Greg is innocent! There hasn't been a jury trial!" to "If he did it, I'd forgive him." to "If he did it, great! Gives this team some personality!"

Teams have fire sales when they don't have the core pieces to be playoff contenders for the foreseeable future. Our young core is probably better than 25 of the 31 other teams in the league.

I think your thread is a bit over reactive but I understand some of your concern.

Angry Ron would like a word with you...

I get what you're saying, but RR is a former NFL linebacker and could literally break 90 plus percent of posters on this board in half. I may question his decision making, but I'll never question his desire or toughness.
