We made Anthony Collins an offer during free agency. i am relieved that this offer did not materialize and quality free agents OT are hard to come by or acquire on a limited budget.

You name the top 10 tackles in the league and I'll show you probably 9 or 10 first round picks. The marquee guys were off the board by the time we picked at number 28.7th round Seantrel Henderson would have been a good option if he had nothing more to offer than competition.

Undrafted free agents? That's a place you were hoping to find a guy who could replace Jordan Gross? James Hurst?and Byron Bell was and still is the solution to Jordan Gross according to DG.

We made Anthony Collins an offer during free agency. He decided to sign with Tampa. I don't know how close our offer was to theirs, but we did make an honest attempt to sign at least one decent veteran tackle. It can rightly be noted that Collins isn't having the best season in Tampa, but who knows how it would've turned out if he chose to sign with us.

You name the top 10 tackles in the league and I'll show you probably 9 or 10 first round picks. The marquee guys were off the board by the time we picked at number 28. And Gettleman was pretty clear that he thought the other tackles weren't better than what we had. He may have been right. Of the guys who would've been available, Bitonio is playing guard instead of tackle, Kouandjio hasn't played a down all season (Buffalo is going to try him out at guard), and here's a fine display of Morgan Moses' awesomeness:

Undrafted free agents? That's a place you were hoping to find a guy who could replace Jordan Gross? Talk about a needle in a haystack. You need to understand how difficult it is for an undrafted guy to even make the team, much less start and perform at a high level during his first year.

Shhhh! You are ruining the narrative.

hurst and seantrel henderson-the two UDFAs everybody was clamoring for-have both sucked this season so that's a moot point.  i doubt that would've been a popular choice here anyway except among carolina homers and if things played out the exact same way we'd have all the same problems.

the choice to play the two tackles we have was likely a multifaceted decision where input from position coaches on up was considered.  i really doubt dave gettleman sat in his office wearing a t-shirt that said "i hate having a good offensive line" and yelled at rivera to start chandler and bell or else and then slammed the phone down like a movie villain.

blue chip jake matthews is the dead last ranked tackle according to PFF.  greg robinson wasn't even starting until two weeks ago.  everybody knows about cyrus kouandijo's struggles.  bitonio is getting played at guard but is doing that well admittedly.

maybe 2014 wasn't the right draft to try for a franchise tackle?

From Aaron Wilson...

Unga's a decent fullback that used to be with the Bears and Jags (I think he scored on us once).  Hagens is a 250 pound back that was previously with the Falcons.  Makes me think we might want someone to temporarily fill Tolbert's role (or at least be a healthy runningback).

Cunningham's a tight end who went to South Carolina.  The rest - Worthington, Brooks and Clebert - are all defensive linemen (Brooks went to East Carolina).

Also of note: Former Panthers safety Anderson Russell tried out for the Bucs.

No OL on the list.  Have to admit I find that surprising.

The OL market may be bare at this point in the season. I can't think of anyone out there that stands out.
