Don't they have like the second most playoff wins since 2007?

When you are winning 10-16 games a year you don't just coast by on your division.

Having an easy division helps a lot.  As does luck of the draw. The year they went undefeated, for example, they had a ridiculously easy schedule.

The Patriots used to be one of the most feared teams in the league, but since their last Super Bowl defeat the mystique's been dwindling.  Many would say it's not quite gone altogether but it's pretty close.

Reading the Boston media provides some insight there too.  Belichick used to be a virtual god there.  Heck, one longtime beat writer lost his job essentially for being too critical of him.  These days though?  Reporters can jab at him with impunity.

They're not what they used to be.

I really think that if Hardy and Alexander hadn't screwed the pooch we would have traded for Michael Roos or a similar player. At this point I think he is hoping that by mid season continuity will trump any possible talent upgrade that he may or may not get with a new OT off the street.

Michael Roos just had season ending surgery

These are some amazing mental gymnastics. When you discount a 16-0 season I realize there isn't a discussion to be had lol.

Not discounting it, but that they had an easy schedule was a factor.

Honestly, if you look back, you'll find more than a few Super Bowl winners got there by playing through relatively easy regular season schedules.  You still have to win in the playoffs of course, but home field advantage helps.

Regardless, the point is that the Patriots are not the juggernaut they used to be.  And you'll find plenty of people outside of just fans on a Panthers message board saying that.

As an example, how many times this season have you seen media questioning whether Tom Brady is still a top QB?

OL is gentleman's achilles heel. he's bent on proving that he was right about bell and chandler being good enough to start and bringing in potential competition might be a sign of weakness. at least that's how it's looking to me. i think he's done a really good job in every other facet (well, except franchising hardy), but the way hebhas handled the OL shows me he isn't perfect.

there may be no available FAs to inspire confidence, but our existing OL does little to inspire it, either. we needed competition to help find the best possible OTs in a weak market. we didn't get it. now we at least need depth and we aren't getting it either. people who feel it necessary to go overboard defending gettleman will say that they are sure that he has a plan...that is if their head isn't buried too far in the sand...and i think he has a plan, it's just got nothing to do with strengthening the OL.

So far he's looking like he was right. All of the OTs that were available for us to pick are looking pretty bad so far. I don't think he's dug in, trying to prove he's right, my theory is that Gettleman believes that O line is more about size, chemistry and coaching up that it is about skill like, for example DEs and WRs have. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. We'll see eventually if it's really that low on his priority list.

New England added an OT to their practice squad today. Apparently there are guys out there worth looking at

Apparently not for long...

Patriots cut Chris Martin from practice squad

No word on this week's tryout players yet.  Don't know if Scott was a tryout or they just signed him on prior knowledge.

Offensive tackle seems to be Gettleman's blind eye weakness much like defensive tackle was Hurney's.  We implore for years and years and years for it to be fixed, but alas, it comes back to bite us time and again.  All we seem to be able to hope is that next year quality guys come to us in the draft.

Blind eye? No, I don't think that's right. Gettleman knows its an issue but won't waste money or draft picks on a crap player.

Hurney knew DT was a weakness and he wasted multiple picks and money on crap players.
