Over the past decade they are by far the best NFL team. Perhaps the best decade by any team ever. Maybe behind the steelers of the 70s.

23 playoff games, 15 playoff wins, 3 Superbowl appearances, 2 Superbowl wins an average win count of like 13 games.

 

Their worst year they went 11-5.

 

Even if you arbitrarily cut it off starting in 2007 they have a resume that just about any team would take. 6 playoff wins and a Superbowl appearance.

I really think that if Hardy and Alexander hadn't screwed the pooch we would have traded for Michael Roos or a similar player. At this point I think he is hoping that by mid season continuity will trump any possible talent upgrade that he may or may not get with a new OT off the street.

Not in the postseason.  They've lost their 'magic' there.

 

Mind you, they've still been able to feast on one of the worst divisions in football for six easy wins a year to help get high seeds.

And here ends the "Patriots are geniuses, Gettleman has something to learn" school of thought.

 

There is nothing out there worth bringing in to look at.  Just because Bellycheat brings in an OT, many of you, some of you I would expect a lot more out of, start spouting off about "If the Patties are doing it...we sure as hell should be, because they know so much more than we do."

 

Really?  How have they done since they got caught cheating?  They evaluate young talent better than we do?  Really?

The Patriots are a smart team, but far from infallible.  They make their share of mistakes.  Trading up to draft Laurence Maroney ahead of DeAngelo Williams was a big one (and technically saved our butts because Hurney had Maroney rated higher than Williams too).

 

Their draft record since Scott Pioli's departure hasn't been so hot.  Yeah, they snookered Hurney out of a second round pick in the Armanti Edwards trade, but they blew the pick on Ras-I Dowling (who's a Raider now).

 

Good scheming, occasional draft home runs and a poor division have helped them a lot, but I think this season things might finally be catching up with them.

When you are winning 10-16 games a year you don't just coast by on your division.
