Marvel Wanted Spider-Man to Appear in ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Ever since Marvel started its own studio – and subsequently became the most popular studio producing Marvel Comics movie adaptations – there have been fans clamoring for Sony to give up the rights to Spider-Man so he could mix it up with the likes of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America.

In lieu of a rights reversal, though, fans have also hoped that Sony’s Spider-Man – played by Andrew Garfield – might cross over into the Marvel movie universe for an event film in the vein of The Avengers. There have even been rumors along these lines, claiming that, as a result of the critical lashing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 received (combined with the fact that it made the least amount of money of all five Spider-Man films), Sony was talking to Marvel about possibly lending the latter studio everyone’s favorite webslinger.

Those rumors? All true, apparently.

Sony needs to let this happen.  Spider-Man is important and Marvel would do a better job with him.

I wish I could wake up one morning and Marvel have rights to everything, X-Men, Spidey, FF4, and even the odd stuff with Namor.

Could get some amazing stuff.

I've heard rumors that talks are happening to share him. I'm kind of meh towards Spiderman after Sony's work on him. I always preferred the Scarlet Spider.

Now if we could get a Deadpool crossovers that would be great. Spiderman and Deadpool or Deadpool vs The Marvel Universe.

Edit: I remembered another one, Deadpool and Galactus.

Word is Marvel will select a new Spiderman for the MCU and thus would result in another Spiderman movie reboot.......

At this point Spiderman is like Batman. Everyone knows the story. I know people who don't know the difference in your and you're but they know Thomas and Martha Wayne were Bruce's parents and their murders motivated him to become Batman

It just kills me that the rights are split. Marvel needs all of it's character's rights back. X-men and Spidey especially. FF4 has always just been "eh" to me, so I don't care there either way.

Sony has ruined both X-men and Spidey with bad films and bad continuity (they've literally killed and brought back to life every character in the X-men at least once due to shortsightedness). Spidey has had 2 reboots, and both have failed. Though, I enjoy Garfield's version of Spider-Man more than that abomination that is the first trilogy with Toby McGuire. Hell, I enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for the most part. Just feel they tried to do too much in one movie and it felt convoluted and rushed a bit when it didn't need to be...just like Spider-Man 3. Introducing too many characters with weak/no motivation to oppose Spider-Man and not really fleshing out the villain as well as they could have.

Let Marvel have it's characters so we can see more epic movies and less crappy movies.

All this being said, anything DC does in movies or television is going to top Marvel for me personally. Marvel is geared towards kids more than adults, and the kids are going to drag the parents along. That's how they get their numbers. DC is written more towards the adult crowd (I mean, just compare the comics...I think it's fairly obvious which crowd is supposed to appreciate it/read it more), and they do a better job of engaging the human element to the heroes and villains. So, as long as Batman vs Superman isn't royally screwed up and Arrow and Flash continue to be as great as they have been, I'll be plenty happy.

Well Fox owns X-Men, and anything associated like Deadpool, etc.  They also own FF4.  The X-Men movies have been good minus Last Stand.  The last two were really great IMO, so I don't worry there.  FF4..... well we'll see.

Sony has Spidey and it's almost been meh to me.  I think the issue with Spider-Man and movies might be, he's better as a supporting character, much like Hulk emerged to be in Avengers.  Spider-Man rocking it out with the rest of the cast would be great and in small doses (his humor, goofyness, etc).

    • After Bountygate and the information that came out on the Saints owners shielding pedophile priests in New Orleans it will forever be the Saints numero uno for me. FUG THE SAINTS! I hope this is just the beginning of a long term period of suffering for that shitty organization run by even shittier human beings. #2.Pats/Belicheat #3. Falcons (Mike Vick years then Matt Ryan/Julio running it up) Ryan pooping his pants and 28-3 def makes my bad days always better just thinking of those. #4 Pretty much any franchise fan base thats obnoxious Steelers, Eagles, Bills, Jets, Giants, Cowboys, etc.
    • Thank God DM used that #8 pick on a bona fide WR1 and not some bum pass rushing prospect like Stewart or someone else. I believe Tet is legit WR1 material and going forward will be our long term answer at that position since we desperately were in need of one once they traded away DJ Moore.  Tet could possibly end up even being better long term than someone who I respect a ton as a WR in Moore. Evans has been a pleasant surprise and great TE/FB depth piece going forward who could make the most of his opportunities.  Any good offense worth a damn in the NFL has 3 TEs that can do multiple things and being scared by Ian Thomas play for years should makes us all appreciate what Evans is quietly doing as a ROOKIE at one of the hardest positions to learn at the pro level.  Keep cooking DM. This season is not over obviously but seeing some growth out of young talent finally is a breathe of fresh fuggin air for once.
    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
