Does Hardy come back after 6 games?

Why aren't case details a factor in this matter??? Any sane person who knows facts about the case would presume hardy innocent which is the reason he took it to a jury trial in the first place

if there is even a little bit of fire causing all this smoke, and considering our history with carruth and our desire to seperate ourselves from that as much as possible, you could hardly blame the panthers from wanting to distance themselves from hardy, even if what he has done (or even alleged to have done) is nowhere near the degree that carruth took it. it's self preservation and knowing that this team can win without him will make that decision easier if it's the decision they feel needs to be made.

 

More than likely it will come down to the money issue next year that determines whether we try to sign him . Will GMan and JR think Hardy is worth the  amount of money him and his agent will ask for, after everything is taken into consideration?

Their bottom line is wins. Listen to any coach gm or owner and that's what they will tell you.

Football decisions. Wins on the field. That's what matters to them. More wins means more money.

I think Hatters point about him being suspended with pay is the issue...  

 

If he was suspended without pay, I could definitely see both Hardy and the Union making an issue of his suspension.

 

This is why we deactivated him in the first place. If we or the NFL has suspended him it would have been an NFLPA issue and a big pain. We can deactivate anyone we want.

You guys do know that it is not up to JR, Gettle anybody in the Panthers org. to decide if or when Hardy plays again.

 

Goodell is in charge. Only he can let Hardy play again.

 

The thing is though, how can you defend not letting Hardy play after the 6 games? What if the trial goes on well into 2015 or 2016? He will end up missing to years or more for a thing the league said is worthy of a 6 game suspension.

The panthers are worth a billion dollars. The nfl is worth billions of dollars. Sponsors won't pull regardless. To much money for them at stake and they know if they drop there will be a line forming from our companies to take their place not one second after it happens. Which brings it back to football and wins. Hardy helps us win.

sponsors can and will pull their support if their bottom line is effected by what one player does or if they feel they don't want to be associated with an organization that is giving that much money to someone who has been found guilty of domestic assault...which is pretty much what the public perception of hardy is and nobody whose money is on the line wants to risk making sponsors unhappy and if we start losing spnsors, the financial value of sponsorships decreases. you can't know that they would be able to continue financially without missing a beat. you can't make everyone happy, but you're damned as an organization if you start losing sponsors/financial support because that stuff can spread like cancer. one drops and others may start to follow suit and while you may have others willing to be sponsors, they may not be willing to pay as much as the ones before them did. in fact i can pretty much guarantee you that point because sponsorships typically go to the highest bidder. one drops out and then you have to settle for the one with the second or third best bid, but now they have a bargaining ship they didn't previously have, which is the absence of someone willing to outbid them. even for sponsorships that aren't bidded on, the value diminshes with less interest or dropped support.

we can and probably would keep going around in circles and i'm too tired to keep it going, but my point would remain this: agree with it or not....like it or not...there is likely a lot more factoring into their decision what to do with hardy than "does hardy help win games".

and to your point about hardy helping win games, he absolutely does, but this past week we found that our defense can adjust to life without him by beating/dominating a pretty stinking good offense. if we can continue to do that, then that in itself brings into question whether or not he's worth the $10mil a year we would likely be signing him to and before you start debating that same argument in regards to say cam or kuechly, i would say that hardy is absolutely not as crucial to this team as either one of those two guys are. but then you add in the drama that is apparently surrounding hardy and it makes the decision to give him that much money that much harder.

i understand where you are coming from, but i also understand that there is more to factor into it than just "does hardy help us win?".

Other than violations of league rules, the NFL tends to give leeway to teams as to whether they suspend players or not.

 

Since Hardy's legal status is - despite the previous verdict - unresolved, it would have been at the team's discretion to suspend him.  Gettleman made clear in his presser that they weren't going to do that, but the NFL is having an image meltdown right now and having Hardy out there in the public eye wasn't gonna help that.  So here we are.

 

As far as the rules for the Commissioner's Exempt list, I'd assume it's his discretion but I haven't looked them up.
