Does Hardy come back after 6 games?

Jeremy Igo

He will have sat out 6 games by the time the Seattle games get here. Who in their right mind would not want him back for that game? For a league who is constantly taking a dump on this team we continue to bend over for them. Especially for a team that has no hardware we care more about narratives than actually winning. Niners have success and they still told the league to fug off. Its so funny how threw this whole situation the organization said they wanted to "get it right" but yet they have done exactly the opposite.

I stand by what i said, despite a 3-2 record this organization has let the fans down ever since the league year started back in march.

McDonald hasn't been charged and the main problem is we are paying him for the six games.

Will he? I hadn't really considered this, but I'd put the odds at 60/40 that he does come back. To get around another 6 game suspension without pay if he were somehow found guilty (and he won't be), could Goodell just fine him the equivalent of 6 game checks? Don't know if that's possible under the CBA.

Should he? Definitely. A first-time offender charged with a misdemeanor does not deserve a year-long or lifetime ban in any sport or really any profession in America.

Speaking to our podcast guest attorney Jeremy Smith the other day. He has had DV cases in Charlotte go over a year into two years awaiting a trial date. The likelihood of a November court resolution is slim to none apparently. This thing could run well into 2015 and possibly 2016. It's all up to the judge by the way, she controls her own calendar. She could choose to have the trial next week if she wanted, apparently.

So with that all in mind, do we bring Hardy back after six games off?

I think the NFL wants him out of the public eye.

Seeing as the team didn't want to suspend him, I wonder if the NFL would do it themselves rather than see him in the spotlight again.

I suppose they could just refuse to take him off the 'exempt' list.  Not sure what the rules are but if it's commissioner's discretion, the team wouldn't have a choice.

If another NFL team would sign Greg Hardy after you released him you should seriously think about retaining your competitive advantage that you have in a franchise player. I'd institute the "Greg Rules" if I was Gettleman going forward. You don't give up on such a huge investment that you've spent years cultivating up to this point just to let another team have him because you don't have the b*lls to stand for winning.

ESPN's moral high horse is a donkey! No they don't want Carolina to win in the first place so why let them dictate your policy? Yes DV is a terrible offense but you have to look at each situation for what it is and not blanket every man with that label. In these cases it would seem a woman can go ape and assault a man and he isn't allowed to restrain that individual? If she is beating him isn't that assault. Why is there no equality there?

I'd let the man earn his paycheck. He's a franchised player. Those don't grow on trees! He didn't kill anybody nor did he beat her up like he could have so you have to look at the level of offense here. Your talking about jealousy and a big payday. People do anything for both. Don't fall for it. If NFL rules six games so be it! If guilty, fine his ars and keep it moving, tight leash in hand. Win Championships not popularity contests.

I think Hatters point about him being suspended with pay is the issue...

If he was suspended without pay, I could definitely see both Hardy and the Union making an issue of his suspension.

Since he's suspended with pay, that tells me that the NFL and the Panthers don't want him around and he won't be back.

i think you have a point and the current situation, whether or not he was actually guilty or not, was probably the straw that broke that camel's back.

this by far isn't the first time that his off field life has threatened his playing time. he has chosen a very risky lifestyle and surrounds himself with people like this girl who is at the center of the story who is allegedly(?) someone who who uses a good bit of drugs. re:hardy, though, remember that pic he posted showing the speedometer of his motorcycle? or that table at he club covered with shot glasses or whatever it was? and there's probably a lot more than that which we haven't seen that PR guys have probably either covered up or otherwise kept from the public.

now he has a right to whatever lifestyle he wants, but remember that this is a business in which the players get massive amounts of money and hardy is due for probably $10+mil a year. keep in mind that many companies in many industries will either suspend or terminate the employment of people who get into trouble even if they are on their own time. the reason is they don't want stuff coming back on them and they don't want to put their own money into someone whose life can negatively affect their performance. you may not like that, but it's their money and their company and they have a right to protect themselves from employees who's outside life can have a negative impact on the organization.

i don't for a moment believe that the panthers expect their players to be perfect angels. i knwo they know a good number of their players like to party and take part in some rather risky outside moments and situations, but you have to also know that they have a limit to what they will put up with and it very well could be that hardy reached his.

one thing to also consider, media scrutiny effects sponsors which the panthers, just like any professional sports organization, depends on for their survival. they also have investors that they depend on and and have to keep happy. if sponsors that help keep this team afloat financially start pulling the plug because of a public backlash, those whose money is wrapped up in the team/organization will understandably want to protect their pocketbook.

there are a couple players that i feel like the panthers depend on for their success...and by a couple i mean two, that being cam and keek. aside from those two (and anderson may challenge this idea), we need those two if we have any hope of playing in the post season. aside from those two, all players on the team are replaceable, imo. it may take a little time for them to adjust and find someone to step up, but for the most part the team should be able to adjust to the absence ofany one or two players on the team.

the team can and will go on without hardy, whether just a couple more weeks or the rest of the season or forever and ever, amen.

going back to hardy's situation, i don't think we know the whole story. that's probably pretty obvious. i also think that the team may he privy to a whole lot more information than we are and that may be something that factors into the decision whether or not hardy plays again. they may know some things that tells them they don't want to continue their relationship with hardy, but won't share that with the public for hardy's sake (or just to protect themselves from future lawsuits...take your pick).

they may feel that prior to this incident, one year giving him $13mil or whatever is fine, but investing much more than that over a much longer period of time wasn't in their best interest as an organization. you can debate whether or not they should factor off field stuff into the equation, but it's not your millions of dollars on the line.

now i have no dog in this fight. i'm not a company man who tows the company line no matter what they do. i disagree plenty with what the orgainzation does. i didn't like franchising hardy to begin with, but that had nothing to do with his off field stuff and everything to do with not wanting to have 20% of the cap spent on two players at one position.

i don't know if hardy is innocent or guilty and i don't really care one way or the other. if he's a panther i'll be cheering for him and if he's not, he's just another guy.

the point of the above was just to provide some perspective on things from the organizational side of things. you don't have to agree with them, but i think their position on things should be understood and maybe even respected.

All his lifestyle business is speculation. Guarantee you they will only be asking one question when looking to play him or sign him long term. Is he good enough to help win games were we can put up with the headache? The answer is yes.

I think he plays and I also think he stays a panther after this year. CJ is too old and too expensive. Hardy is in his prime and his deal can be worked to better fit us.

He'll probably be found innocent due to lack of evidence and that will be the last of that.

Bring him back when 6 are up.

    • Agreed on all counts. The thread just read a bit like the Rhule deference that was here early on, and especially in the back and forth with Bridgewater where everyone sided with Rhule and staff over Teddy just because they hated Teddy's play. Look how that turned out.
