If CJ doesn't keep his normal play up and no other young DE shows potential. I could see them bringing back Greg next year (if found not guilty of course). Greg is a young foundation piece that we developed. No need to give that up if he's innocent.

He was found guilty by a judge,

He was granted a trial by jury.

He does not play until he is found not guilty by a trial of his peers.

In any event after 2014 he is done as a Panther, period.

Best case scenario he is signed by another team for big bucks next year and we end up with a 3rd round compensatory for our initial 6th round investment.

The NFL hasn't levied a penalty against Greg Hardy. They've placed him in limbo. There's another factor here that many of you aren't considering. If Hardy accepts the six game suspension, he moves up to a Level 2 offender on the list by basically serving a sentence from the NFL as a guilty man. It would be a TOUGH sell to have that penalty negated retroactively regardless of his appeal if he served the suspension for it. That would mean he's one more offense or accusation away from being banned from the NFL forever.

 

Plus, a suspension means that his paychecks would be snatched. He's still getting paid. Therefore, unless he gives back those six game checks he's not going to be recognized as having served anything. And frankly, it would be hilariously dumb on Hardy's behalf to forfeit six weeks of the best paying year of his NFL career in order to get back on the field for a team he's on a 1 year deal with. The possibility that his next contract is going to be miniscule in comparison to this one means that Greg had better keep quiet and keep taking checks until the season ends and before any real suspension can be handed down. Basically, is it worth $5 million for Hardy to give up to even have a CHANCE of getting back on the field? All that while his next contract status is entirely up in the air? No agent in the league would advise him to risk that.

FYI...

Thanks to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport and Albert Breer we were able to get the full explanation directly from the NFL Player Personnel Policy Manual:

"The Exempt List is a special player status available to clubs only in unusual circumstances. The List includes those players who have been declared by the Commissioner to be temporarily exempt from counting within the Active List limit. Only the Commissioner has the authority to place a player on the Exempt List; clubs have no such authority, and no exemption, regardless of circumstances, is automatic. The Commissioner also has the authority to determine in advance whether a player's time on the Exempt List will be finite or will continue until the Commissioner deems the exemption should be lifted and the player returned to the Active List."

This is from NFL.com. So the fact is, as some have pointed out, JR and Co have no say in when he comes back. Now the question is should or will Goodell let him play? I don't think he will. I don't thing Goodell is going to willingly place himself under even more media scrutiny. The buzz surrounding DV and the NFL has not really dissipated. It's still heavily discussed in national media, not just sports media. There is little chance Goodell can let Hardy play without coming under fire. He won't do it.

Should he? Yes. This is a man who has admitted nothing and is still in the middle if his due process. Punishing him before there is final determination of guilt is wrong. He should never have been exempted in the first place. It was a cowardly act of submission to the self-righteous media clowns. I pity the man without the bravery to stand firm on his own ideals and convictions.

In summary...RELEASE THE EFFING KRAKEN already!!

Huh?  He was charged with neglect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.  He has a court date set for 12/1.  Hard to go to court over something you haven't been charged with.  smh
