Philly Brown....

The Bears game plan for Philly as well as every other team we face will be to lay him out on his first punt return to shake him up. Backfired on the Bears.

I would not be surprised if you see every teams punter hang the ball for a shorter punt in an effort to put Brown in a position to field the ball with defenders in his face. If done right, gunners will be on Brown just as he is about to catch the punt. A bit concerning if you ask me. Philly is a target on punt return and will continue to be until he proves he can field it and make people miss or consistently catch his fair catches without bobbling the ball.and letting it get into his chest.

He has 2 fumbles in 5 games, my math must suck cause I'm not sure how that is a muffed punt in every game. Or are muffs different from fumbles?

On the backbreaking TD in the Pitt game, he muffed the punt, picked it up, and then fumbled all in the same play. Dude has put the ball on the ground a lot.

A muffed punt is when a punt returner attempts to catch a punt and doesn't secure the ball. If his own team recovers the ball he would not have a fumble, but it is still considered a muffed punt. I don't recall how many Philly Brown has, but I remember the one in 2nd half against Chicago which was recovered by the Panthers as well as the one against Steelers that was recovered by the Steelers. I'm sure there have been more I just don't remember them.

It just looks to me like he needs more practice... both in catching punts and determining when to fair catch and when to return.

He's got talent for sure... he just looks very raw and nervous.  I think we need to give him a chance.

He's also shown flashes at WR so I'm pretty happy with the guy aside from the muffs/fumbles.

It pretty much boils down to focus, and him trying to do too much to make a play. But he's clearly talented.

The coaches simply need to instill in his mind that not every return can be for a touchdown. Sometimes a fair catch is the best call.

I hate punts period. More potential for bad than good. The league just needs to do away with them. I propose if you force a 4th down, let the opposing team automaticially take over at their own 35 (unless the offense chooses to go for it ofcourse) Just think about it. Its rare you get big yds or a TD from returns anyway, and when you finally do, a majority of a time it comes back because of a "illegal block in the back" penalty. I think the league should just do away with punts period

That is a stupid idea.

Why the 35? It would prevent you from pinning the opposing team inside the 5 yard line, and removes the potential for a momentum shifting play in either direction.
