Philly Brown....

Kid can't return a punt to save his life but Philly might be a big fuging deal in the future. He is on pace to have near 500 total yards of offense and he is rarely used. Imagine him next year if Cotch or Avant are gone and Ricky had a year to coach him up.

I like what I've seen from Philly Brown at the WR spot. He gets open and he's fast. Nice player for trickery stuff like end arounds and reverses but he fugs up too much as a punt returner. I think he's scared shitless in that role.

This doesn't seem accurate. If he was afraid he would simply fair catch everything. He's having the opposite problem. He gets so few touches that he wants to take everything and make a play on it. I joked with my brother at the game that the only punt he fair caught was the only one he should have returned. The problem he's having is judging the appropriate distance and setting his feet under him when fielding punts. He's either coming up too far on them or he's coming up short. It's a correctable problem. It's like an outfielder in baseball that takes bad routes to the ball. Experience will help him have a better sense of where he needs to be to get under punts while simultaneously checking to see how close the gunners are to making a play on him. Right now, he's not able to look down and see how far the coverage team has advanced on him because he's having to focus all his energy on trying to determine where the punt is going to land and securing the catch. He's guessing by time if his blocks have held up and that's a terrible idea. On his touchdown return he should have fair caught that ball ten out of ten times.

i could see our opponents game plan to put the ball in philly's hands more this year on special teams, because it seems clear that he is WAY too weak, and is susceptible to coughing it up when defenders attempt to strip the ball. he is going to have to gain a substantial amount of strength in order to not be a potential liability on returns in the nfl...teams will be attempting to exploit that.

as a wr, im very impressed with his route running, hands, and consistency. he's ridiculously polished for an undrafted free agent without character concerns, and if he puts in the effort to gain some more strength, he WILL be a gem for us moving forward!
