It isn't about some old school tactics by Rivera or him learning slow.

It is the fact Brandon Williams isn't nearly as good as this forum makes him out to be.  I could have told you or anyone else that Swole Bones likely wasn't going to contribute a lick.  He just isn't that good of a player, yet.

 

Now that could change.  Like Igo said, nobody should give up on him.  He clearly has some natural ability.  But I don't get why people are getting their hopes up for him so much.  Odds are he won't do a thing this year.  He's just not that good right now and the idea that he is anything better than a role player / special teamer right now stems from the fact we tend to, myself included, over-hype training camp and preseason warriors.

I think his snaps will increase. He ran several routes and he was targeted. It will come.

I think it's less Williams and more our TE situation. We are pretty well-off at the TE position. And with Shula calling a vanilla offense, I don't see Williams getting very many opportunities given our current skill guys.

Yep. And they guy he was bulldozing had leverage on him but Williams still drove him back 10 yards. I think that play was in Q3 or Q4.

I know one of those he was in triple coverage. It happened in my end zone and we were all saying how lucky it was that the ball was batted down.

According to NFL gamebook he was also targeted twice. i observed one of Cam's tip passes he was the target.

 

That would have been a TD. He blew by his defender and had a few steps.

You see pictures and more pictures of him putting in the work.  We have guys that aren't playing now that can play.  They just need time.  This was evidenced Sunday night by watching Casey Walker blow up the Bengals offensive line for the Patriots.   Everybody can't shine at the same time and Olsen is looking like the best TE in the league with Gates.  With his recent fire and emotion, I would target him as much as possible.
