Keep convincing yourself that.

the 3 best teams in 2013 were the seahawks, 49ers, and panthers... what do those teams have in common... mobile qb+ top 10 defense= playoffs

wilson beat brees and manning

kaepernick beat rodgers

cam beat beat brady

these new young qbs are so advanced and unlike their predeccesors mcnabb, vick, and culpepper... they relish in taking on elite pocket passers... brady, manning, and brees wont be here in 5 years... what type of qb do you think will replace them....

Dan Marino and Peyton Manning have most the records though. Vick is on the bench, The Golden Calf of Bristol is out of the league, Culpepper was amazing initially but burned out, Jamarcus Russel was a dud.

Wilson is much smarter than the other running qbs. Because of that he avoids injury and I imagine he'll be able to start and play at a high level well into his 30s unlike a lot of other mobile QBs.

Cam and Kap aren't Wilson. Be nice if they were but they just aren't. Neither are as good in the pocket. Neither have as good of a deep ball. Neither are wise enough to know when to go down and not absorb a hit.

Wilson is a unique talent. Cam and Kap are nothing like him.

Kap, wilson, cam, Bridgewater, Winston, etc. Are still babies playing the position. The future is bright. I bet you can't list a better 5 young QBs in the opposite end of the spectrum better than them. Fluko, Luck, stafford? Don't make me laugh.

Wilson is a lot like HOF QB Fran Tarkenton, another game manager that didn't pass much with great legs. Tark was a 9-time Pro Bowler, first two at age 24 and 25 (his 4th and 5th yrs in the League). Wilson was a Pro Bowler at age 24 and 25, his 1st two years in the League. Currently a Top 5 NFL MVP candidate at age 26

Wilson has the 2nd highest passer rating in NFL History

The takeover is scary right?  The paradigm has been shifting for a while and frankly this is only the beginning.  Pretty much all of the next generation of top quarterbacks are dual threats (legitimate dual threats whose elite passing skills complement superb athletic mobility). This includes both college and high school. And like it or not, Luck is a dual threat quarterback as well. It's ok though.  Change is the only constant in life.

Wilson is an efficient player who can make all the throws. Throwing the ball 50 times is stupid. That's coaching with no creativity. It shouldn't take 500 yards passing to win a game. That's ugly bad defensive football, which I hate.

Matt Flynn was blowing up the stats in Green Bay but couldn't cut as even a 2nd stringer in Seattle. To all those people arguing that some other QB would do better or as well as Wilson need to think about that.

Very good point. When Rodgers was out last year he kept them afloat for a playoff spot yet couldn't make it in seattle. Interesting!

I think Wilson is fantastic. But to say he doesn't need weapons is a poor argument. Marshawn Lynch is a top 3 RB and Harvin is one of the most electrifying players in the game. He's great but let's keep it 100

again, similar to Fran Tarkenton, who finished the season Top 4 in the NFL in passer rating NINE times (#1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4) and in the Top 10 of the NFL in passer rating SIXTEEN seasons (the above plus #6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 9, 10)

2012 Matt Ryan beat Wilson. Also Vick and Culpepper went deep in the NFC playoffs during their day, Mcnair went to a Super Bowl.

Nothing new is happening. There have been great mobile QBs in the past.

The biggest factor is the new coaches with fresh approaches in Harbaugh and Carroll and the discount price QBs. I'll be a believer when these teams are this good and Cam, Kap, Wilson have 100 million salaries.

Flacco looked amazing with the best NFL defense as well. The past two years he's looked good but not great.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
