Staying together for the sake of the kids?

My opinion on this is next to nothing because I'm not a parent. But I feel when you have a child in the situation given you owe it to that child to give them a normal life growing up. And if it means spending a couple decades with someone you're not crazy about that's what you have to do.

Divorce.

 

It's painfully obvious when two parents hate eachother and a child's natural reaction is to blame himself for the discord. Kids need a peaceful home and the financial stability. Even if you divorce you can pay child support, get visitation or shared custody, and sitll be there.

 

Also kids are impressionable. By staying together with someone you hate you will teach your kids to maintain bad relationships. It's much more beneficial to teach them to split amicably.

 

A lot of criminals and poor people do come from single mothers. But these cases are usually extremes - cases where the father was gone before the child was even born and never wanted anything to do with it.

Agreed.  Of course in many cases they probably felt sure at the time.  Sometimes it is having kids that beings the "growing apart" process.

I work with youth. Time and time again it's been reaffirmed to me how crucial having a father and mother figure in their household is to a child's development. I support the idea of working for their sake.
