Giants Release Trindon Holliday

Recommended Posts

Who would you guys let go for Trindon Holliday?  That is the main thing.

Yes, Philly Brown is a risk on punt returns... but at the same time, he still contributes on offense, something Holliday can't and won't do, considering he has a total of 24 career yards from scrimmage.  Brown has smoked that total already this season.

Sounded good to me, but I had no idea he had that many fumbles. Ouch.

Regardless, if you wanted to look at the positives, he also can negate those fumbles because he has the ability to get a TD on any given return. He has the sheer speed we lack.

I don't think he's the answer though.

So you want to drop Philly Brown, and pick up a guy who fumbles on 8.5% of the returns and averages 9.4 yards per punt return and 27.1 yards per kick return?

But wait you say. He has 2 receptions for 17 yards and 1 rush for 7 yards, too. In 31 games.

What are Philly Browns stats, you ask? They must be so much worse:

15.4% fumble percentage, so yes that is worse, albeit on 9 career returns. 21 yards per kick return, and 12.8 yards per punt return.

10 receptions for 105 yards and 5 first downs. 3 rushes for 33 yards.

All of Philly's stats are in 5 games, while the totals for Holliday are over 31 games.

So I ask anyone to explain how Trindon Holliday is a better option for the Panthers than Philly Brown.

Edited: Oh and Holliday averages 1 touchdown on a return every 18 games.

Brown so far is 1 every 5.

1. No one is saying to cut Philly Brown or that he can't contribute on offense so those arguments are pointless.

2. Philly Brown's return yesterday was a fumble return off a fluke play. If Brad Nortman had been in the same position, there's a decent chance he too could have surprised everyone and ran it in for a touchdown. Smart, heads-up play, but not indicative of his return abilities WHATSOEVER.

What is Philly's PR avg without that fluke return yesterday?

I was honestly surprised they counted it as a PR...

Regardless, a fumble percentage over 10% is astronomical.

What difference does it make? Do you take away an interception because the receiver fell down? It was a return of a punt, regardless of the circumstances. He still had to outrun the other team to the end zone. Why would you take away a play just because it was not traditional?

You are just arguing for the sake of arguing at this point.

If you bring in someone to return punts, they have to take someone's place on the roster. Are you going to add another receiver without cutting one? Should I give you Brenton Bersin's stats, then? Or Avant? Who would you recommend cutting to make room on the roster? I can assure that their career stats in the receiving portion are better than Holliday's.

And it is still a punt return, no matter how much of a fluke play. Even if it had been a d-lineman who picked it up and rumbled in for a touchdown, it would go on his stats a a punt return. Why should it be qualified?
