An interesting point was made on a show this morning...

I voiced my concerns early in camp about how loose practices were. Hardly any contact at all, far more non padded days than padded days.

But I think our woes come from two tackles who are severely inexperienced against playing 3-4 defenses. Neither have played against them before this season in their current position, and neither had hardly any practice going against it all offseason.

They didn't look bad against Tampa and Detroit at all who run the standard 4-3 the guys were used to seeing and had plenty of practice against.

If they do well this week, we definitely will see the root cause of the poor play over the past two weeks.

How often are the backs or tight ends asked to chip on some of these edge rushers? Maybe I've missed it but that would seem to be a way to give the tackles some help against those speed rushers.

What type of defense do the Bengals run?

zod i really think your theory on 4-3 v 3-4 is really over simplistic and optimistic, especially considering the ravens don't really even run one.

I think the point he was getting at is we struggle with edge speed rushers, which is what Baltimore and Pittsburgh's pass rush is built on.   The Ravens run more of a hybrid that's supposed to be less susceptible to inside power running which some view as an achilles heel of traditional 3-4 defense, but the pass rushing comes from similar style players.

One thing I do not understand is why we don't run quick routes like you guys have mentioned?  Other teams run quick routes against us because they respect our pass rush; well did respect it.  Why don't we run quick routes, not out of respect, but out of fear that our o-line is poor.  Maybe it cant be done, but I refuse to believe that the WR's we have cant run quicks and slants.  We have seen KB run slants, he has dropped a few but has caught most.  He is so physical its hard to stop that.  Like I said, maybe I am missing something, because I certainly am not a coach.

I hope they do. We could feast on quick routes all day. I kind of don't expect to see much pressure from the secondary, due to them being so depleted in that area. Hell, they have a guy rotating from LB to SS during the game.

Unfortunately Shula will be running 10 yard plays so it prob will work.

Our online is young.

Most fans have no idea it takes literally years for lines to gel/develop, especially being so young.

We all want instant production even though it doesn't work that way.

This line will get better.

The salary cap prevents being able to build and keep dominate olives together. It is impossible now days. It is what I hate most about the modern NFL with the salary cap.

Add the fact that teams can't practice in pads as often thanks to the new CBA, and we're hamstrung even more.

They rushed fast OLB's on the edges all game long, and it destroyed the Panthers all day, starting with the very first snap.

Why do you think they are putting Jason Williams in at DE to practice against now? Hint: its not because they play on putting him in at DE for a game.

With the way the O Line is structured right now, I wonder how much more work Kalil has to put into defending extra men. I remember in the Steelers game when Kalil missed a block because he was expecting help. That type of wear and tear on a center cannot be good. As much talk about Cam being pressured too much, I can only imagine what Kalil is thinking. Anyone else think that if we do not repair the OLine, we may lose two probowlers (Cam and Kalil)?

I'm beginning to think the overall talent pool isn't large enough to support all teams with at least an average O-line....When the music stops, you got what you got.

This has been bouncing around in my hear for a year or so as well.
