Someone should give Hurney a worst GM in the history of the world at any sport award so he has something to constantly remind himself how terrible he is. It's the least amount of reprimand for putting this team through this nonsense for so long during and after the fact.

Hardy will cost us too much to keep. In all honesty, we should have let him walk during free agency. We could have brought in Veldheer and Jared Allen, with money to spare. (Could have resigned Mike Mitchell and had him playing alongside DeCoud) In all seriousness, we probably threw away the season the moment we franchised Hardy.

Allen - 32m

Veldheer -35m

Hardy - 13m

I know Hardy's contract is only 1 year but maybe we didn't want to commit that much long term money.

So your 2015 DE lineup is gonna be Ealy/Horton and Alexander/Addison...

While it does suck, there are some players that are UFA that we could add for not a ton of money that would be better than those.

Carrington, Clayborn, Cliff MAtthews, etc.

I think you may underestimate what Hardy brings to the defense.

Even a simpleton like me can see that hell would have to freeze over for us to keep both Greg and CJ but, I appreciate the Hurney ball (that is some kind of new thing Rum, just go along with it).

My current dilemma is trying to figure out if Hardy should be able to play after week six. Regardless of final verdict, is this not what he faces, a six game suspension?

Lastly, my boss ain't getting poo out of me tomorrow. I passed my weekend limit 2 hours ago.

BTW, because of the libation consumed so far tonight, it took me 15 minutes to type and then proof-read and then edit this post.

I leave you with this my friend...

If Hardy's trial gets pushed back.....he should come back and play after sitting for 6 games this year IMO.

You know they'll use the argument that he was paid for those games

I know....

But at this point, the fact the NFL has zero policy in place makes it all a joke.

If his court date gets pushed back it puts stress on the NFL.....bc how they currently stand would then be setting a precedence that players can miss a year or however long it takes while letting the legal process play out. They then have to realize he could have a not guilty vote.....and that would make the path they are technically on absurd

Court date goes as planned and it helps the NFL deal with it there mess

Veldheer's contract for a starting LT is pretty friendly.  That position is more of a need for us.  As for Allen, the Bears overpaid him because they weren't much of a contender.  He could have took less money for us, but yeah, we wouldn't have given him the contract the Bears gave him.  Ultimately the money we are giving Hardy could have been put to use at multiple positions.

There is no guarantee Allen would have joined us for less.  Also there is no guarantee Veldheer would have signed with us for the same, he might have wanted more to come to Carolina.

Either way the 2 of them would have tied up more cap space then Hardy.  While Hardy's number is large for one year it is off of the books after this year.

Or maybe the plan was to sign Hardy long term after tagging him.  We could have easily structured the contract to be cap friendly in the first year.  That would have freed up some space to sign a tackle.  When Hardy had his off the field issues all that fell apart.

I'm just glad DG didn't overpay him on a long term contract from the start.  Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make.

Even if we had signed Veldheer I'm not convinced it would have helped the team as much as Hardy.  In our two losses which player do you think would have helped the team more?  I can see arguments either way.
