PREACH!!!!!! To see so many people negative about a 2-2 start is crazy! We are tied for 1st in the NFC South, and we have Da Bears coming into our house!

This will be the week we break our "not scoring a TD on our first procession."

Let's not forget, we have something da Bears don't. We have the NFL Offensive Rookie of September!

Panthers-31

Da Bears-17

You'll beat them the way the Bills did.  Don't be afraid of the big play, they got the playmakers to get them.  It's going to happen.  At least once.  But, if you make them go deep and go all or nothing then you will generate turn overs.

On offense you must manage the game, commit no turnovers and keep Chicago's D on the field.

There isn't a reason you should not win this game.

We're getting tips from the bills now. We've officially hit rock bottom.

Getting pressure on Cutler and forcing him into throwing picks keeps getting mentioned.  Who is going to bring that pressure?  The 4th string DE?

There's mention of the Lions having tall wide receivers (plural)?  Other than Calvin Johnson, who else does that include?  Golden Tate is 5'11"...

Brandon Marshall: 6'4"

Alshon Jeffery: 6/3"

Martellus Bennet: 6'6"

Matt Forte: 6'2"

Even the Bears RB is fuggen tall.  You can't cover all of that height.

For all of the mentions of Cutler getting loosey goosey with the ball, he's only thrown 4 INTs this season against his 10 TDs and 2 of those picks came against his nemesis the Packers last week... 1 pick was his brainfart trying to force the ball; the other a wrongly run route by Marshall.  But Cutler's gonna be Cutler, regardless.  You can typically count on him to throw a ball he regrets.

Ironically, Cutler has thrown for more yards in the 2 losses with a higher average yards/completion than in the 2 wins this season.  In last week's game against the Packers, Forte (122 yards) and backup RB Ka'Deem Carey (72 yards) combined for 194 yards rushing and both averaged 5+ yards/carry.  Green Bay has the league's worst running defense... Carolina is not far behind them, though.   The Bears & Panthers are both fairly equally mediocre at Passing D though the Bears appear that they might be back to their ball-hawking ways with Kyle Fuller emerging as a stud in the making with 3 picks already (which equals the number the Panthers entire Defense has achieved at this point).

I love Igo's enthusiasm but let's put it into perspective.

Me personally, I don't feel that either team should come into this game feeling any significant advantage.  Your points about Cutler this season are definitely valid, but he's due for a Cutler-esque INT fest.  It happens, and because he's been so much better to this point in the season, it's almost even more likely to occur in as catastrophic a manner as ever before.

That's the homer in me.  I still like the home team in this one.  And the pressure will be brought by Star and Short up the middle.

Detroit uses a lot of 2 and 3 TE sets, and did against us.  That's a lot of height to cover IMO.

Eric Ebron: 6'4"

Joseph Fauria: 6'7"

Brandon Pettigrew: 6'5"

plus

Calvin Johnson: 6'5"

I see a whole lot of sad faces on the huddle as of late. As your MFCEO, I am here to turn that frown upside down.

Allow me to inject a little hope into your emo IV drip. Turn down the Evanescence, and read on.

This Sunday the Carolina Panthers take on the NFC North's Chicago Bears. For a glance at how well the Panthers could do against the Bears, lets look back to our other NFC North opponent from week 2, the Detroit Lions. The Bears are not all that dissimilar to the Lions on paper. Pocket passer, large receivers, dynamic running back, 4-3 defense, etc....

The Panthers defense was able to allow only seven points to the potent Detroit offense. Detroit currently has the 10th ranked offense in the NFL. Chicago has the 16th.

Yes, but the Panthers are injured now, right? Yes and no.

Yes, Charles Johnson looks like he probably will not play on Sunday. In the game against Detroit, Johnson had 1 tackle. If Horton, Addison, or Ealy can muster a single tackle they will have matched Johnson's production. Mario Addison, on the other hand, registered three tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 4 QB hits. Addison is starting Sunday.

The only only other difference on the defensive side of the ball personnel wise is Josh Norman being promoted to starter over Melvin White. This may actually be an improvement against Chicago's large athletic wide outs (if Norman can maintain his composure.)

Thomas Davis is the healthiest he has been since the Detroit game where he lead the team with 12 tackles. Although his presence was desperately needed in Baltimore, having him healthy at home this week may be the difference in the game.

Defensively, the bottom line is this: Last Sunday, the Bears mustered only 17 points at home against Green Bay, who currently have the 28th ranked defense in the league. The Panthers defense has already proven once this year that they can dominate with the roster available to them this Sunday. Will they? That is entirely up to them.

On the offensive side of the ball, there are also reasons to be hopeful.

Byron Bell and Nate Chandler have looked horrible in the last two games. The good news is while those games were against  3-4 defenses. Chicago mainly sticks with their base 4-3. Bell and Chandler have performed average to above average against 4-3 defenses this season.

Yes, Deangelo Williams is out on Sunday. But he was out against the Lions as well. Jonathan Stewart may be back this week, but he only averaged 2.5 yards per carry against Detroit. Tolbert is also out, but he actually had -5 yards on the day. Stewart, Reaves, and Ogbonnaya may actually give the Panthers more options in play calling against Chicago.

Lets not forget Brandon Williams getting his first big shot this week. Richie Brockel is an excellent blocker and is out for this game. The Panthers have been abysmal in short yardage situations where Brockel is mostly used. Brandon Williams could provide a spark to an element of the offense that can't get much worse.

Offensive Bottom Line: The Bears have allowed at least 19 points every game this season. Cam Newton, Greg Olsen, and the receiving core are healthy and talented enough to put up touchdowns against Chicago. If Mike Shula can muster a somewhat respectable run game the Panthers should be able to put up 20+ points, enough to win provided the defense plays up to its potential.

Overall Bottom Line: The Panthers have the roster and the ability to win this game.

My prediction:

Panthers 24

Bears 20

Thanks Boss,

About time someone had a positive outlook on things.

I liked how Jordan Gross said the other day with Kalil. It is never good as everyone thing or as bad either.(or something like that)

Well, sure you can line up big boys but if all they do is block and aren't a receiving threat, big deal.  Ebron, Fauria and Pettigrew have combined for 12 receptions on 23 targets for the season

Those Bears players I listed are ALL targets and each of them has more receptions than the 3 Detoilet TEs

They are still options, and still have to be covered.  2 of them accounted for 623 rec. yards last season, and of course, Ebron is a rookie.

17 points at home against Green Bay. Chicago is far from an offensive juggernaut.

I never said Chicago was an offensive juggernaut.  Rather, I would point out that the Panthers D is a far, far cry from the Defensive juggernaut they were last year and that the Bears have weapons that can exploit the Panthers' current weaknesses.  Regarding last week, that's a pretty lazy and disingenuous response when you look at the Bears' drive charts.

http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/drivechart?gameId=400554207

Every drive got within the 30 yard line with the average drive going ~64 yards.  That's a sign of a pretty solid offense, IMHO.
