The 3 players Hurney traded up for

Um. What? This thread has nothing to do with us losing two games. Tbh I only made this thread in spite of the news of Alexander's second suspension and all the hatred Gettleman is getting. My main point is with all the questionable moves Gettleman has made, Hurney was a lot worse.

At this point, griping about draft picks that were literally traded years ago is just looking for excuses to gripe.

Gettleman is not getting any "hatred", expect by maybe a few morons who have less than zero credibility anyways. There are people concerned with our OL, and like it or not, Gettleman is in charge of that. It is a complete mess right now. There is no sugar coating that.

Can't give Hurney credit for Cam, that was the obvious and only pick we could've made. And if you look at the whole picture, in all likelihood, Rivera was the reason we drafted Luke. Not Hurney.[/quote

Really? ? That's BS. You had Scouts and GM'S who didn't have Cam as a 1st round pick. Hurney fug up a lot but he deserves credit for a lot of his 1st round picks

Yeah Hurney made some good picks, but I wouldn't give him too much credit for Cam.  We were looking for a franchise QB at that time, or really a franchise anything.  Hurney was trying to save his job as well.  A lot of things went into the Cam pick.

It really does not matter anymore.

The Panthers are in deep poo.

What matters is do they come put smelling like a rose or manure.

Betting probability says manure and I would say this, any player that stops trying, gone. Go young, play people who want to play and get of those just taking up space, take the hit and be done with it.

I'm old. Time is short for my PSLs and my ability to pay for them.

Dude Cam wasn't considered a sure fire 1st round pick. And not many people had him as the #1 pick overall.

Remember that draft had Pat Peterson, Darus, AJ Green Julio Jones and Von Miller. We could have used any of these positions. Give Hurney his credit on that pick.

Luke and Cam is better than anything Gettleman will be able to do. Luke and Cam gives us hope even in the most trying times. We all know Gettleman would have drafted Gabbert.

Star

KK

Benji

All 3 look like they are going to be top notch for a very long time

Bene has promise as well and in his first two years he's shown he's a much better drafter than Hurney could every hope to be. Hurney nailed 1st round picks and nothing else and then turned around and handed out stupid contracts to terrible or low value players. It's going to take awhile to build up some depth.

The second best scenario I could see out of that group is us taking Peterson in 11, and still taking Keek, Star, and KB the following years. Imagine a defense with the best CB, the best LB, and one of the best DTs in the league on it. Of course Cam is still the way to go, but it's an interesting thought at the same time.

1. Everette Brown, 2009.

Traded 2010 first rounder to San Francisco for their 2009 2nd round pick which was obviously used on Everette Brown. The 49ers used our 1st rounder in 2010 to take Mike Lupati, who's become a pro bowl Guard. Everette Brown was cut after two seasons.

2. Armanti Edwards, 2010

Traded our 2011 2nd rounder (33rd overall) to the Patriots for their 2010 3rd rounder which again, obviously, we used on Armanti Edwards for god knows why. The Patriots took CB Ras-I Dowling with the 2nd round pick. He has battled injuries so far and is no longer with the patriots, but who knows who we would've taken with that pick. Armanti Edwards did literally nothing with us and was eventually cut.

3. Frank Alexander, 2012

Traded a 2013 3rd rounder to the 49ers for their 2012 4th rounder. The 49ers traded our 3rd round pick to Dallas who drafted WR Terrence Williams with the pick. However, Keenan Allen went two picks later to San Diego. Frank Alexander has done very little so far and will miss at least 14 games this season due to TWO drug use violations.

TLDR: Even though some of us have been tough on Gettleman (myself included), at least he's better then the last idiot we had at GM. Not to mention the ridiculous contracts he's given out that kept us from getting any quality lineman this offseason.

Jeff otah too.

Many people questioned if Cam was worth the number one overall pick.  It's not like he was going to fall out of the first round.  If we didn't pick him, the Bills would have. (Of course that year the Bills picked 3rd.  So Cam was a sure fired top 3)  I don't give too much credit to Hurney because I think JR himself wanted this pick to some degree.  In the end, Hurney just picked up the QB, a position that was obviously our weakness.  Many GMs would have made the same decision.

To get an idea of why Hurney is no longer the GM, you only have to look at who was picked in the next round after Cam.

That'd be no one.

At least not by us, because that pick had been traded away for the privilege of drafting Armanti Edwards.

For that matter, take a look at the rest of the picks made in that draft.  Except you really can't because none of them play here anymore, and that draft was only three years ago.

You wanna be GM of a winning team?  You need at least some of your lower round picks to contribute.

Then in that Case we could have been stuck with Gabbert (who a lot of scouts had rated over Cam) Locker or Ponder. So Hurney made a highly questioned choice where he had options at DT a need, CB a need and WR a need and QB'S that were rated higher and gets no credit??

Really??
