We didn't "count on him". We just didn't cut him. That's pretty standard procedure for teams when it's a guy's first suspension.

Keeping him after another suspension? That'd be a gamble.

No, imo, keeping him after play in himself I to the doghouse AND then getting himself suspended IS a gamble in itself. We could've already had a veteran who could contribute on the team if we knew his dumbass would get himself suspended for the year.

Also, remember Rivera's "CAMP MVP" quote (despite people that were there saying otherwise) and IIRC, something along the lines of we'll be excited to get him back... you don't say that about a guy you're not counting on.

It's okay to admit when our franchise has egg on its face, and apparently there's a lot of that going around these last three weeks or so.

Teams rarely let go of a guy after his first suspension unless he's a scrub.

 

And you have to keep in mind they also didn't know what was gonna happen with Greg Hardy.  Throw in that he worked hard in training camp and looked like he was turning it around.

 

Keeping Alexander made sense.
