So why not do it like last year?

and then a mid-rounds big back, hopefully. I'm not a guy expecting immediate cuts of both DW and Stewart but they have to come up with a solid young RB.

Been thinking about that too.

I know a lot of folks would love to get Todd Gurley, but I like the idea is using a mid-round pick on someone in the Matt Forte mode better.

Maybe the fact that we already have two first-round backs on roster is skewing my thinking, but I really feel like that's the best way to go.

I wonder if statistics support this idea.  Especially in the last five years.

DeMarco Murray - Round 3

Le'Veon Bell - Round 2

Rashad Jennings - Round 7

Knile Davis - Round 3

Alfred Morris - Round 6

Lamar Miller - Round 4

Chris Ivory - Undrafted

Matt Forte - Round 2

Frank Gore - Round 3

Justin Forsett - Round 7

I give you the current top ten yardage gainers in the NFL this season so far.

When you think about drafting a running back in the first round you have to consider replacement cost also.

For example the 10th pick in this year's draft has a cap hit of 2.2 million.

You can usually get a pretty good FA running back for not much more then that, in some cases less.

A quality tackle will cost you considerable more then that in free agency.

I'm a big fan of using early picks on positions of high value.  A starting left tackle at 2.2 million frees up more money for the team then a starting running back at the same price.

I'm not sure Hill is the type of receiver you're looking for either. He's fast in a straight line, but turning a short pass into a long gain requires short area quickness and acceleration more than anything. Looking at the combine results from 2012, he had the slowest 20 yard shuttle of all the wide receivers and a middle of the road 3 cone.

He may not be for the WCO style, but he could potentially be a pure deep threat in a straight on Coryell attack if he pans out.

We can certainly hope.

Did you see the MNF game?  I was like, "damn, why don't we do that," in regards to the Chief's use of 3 TE sets.  I think that would be an extremely good fit for our offense, considering who we have as TE's.  Even with a struggling run game, I think it could be successful.  What do you think?

I'd try it.

Heck, why not?

Is Cams injury making the O-line look worse than it is when it's not that much different to last year? Not disputing that it's trash because it is and the loss of Gross and Wharton hurts, but quite a few times last year Cam was able to escape pressure/sacks through scrambling whereas he's not able (or told not to) do that this year, maybe even with last years O-line Cam still get's battered, although not by as much

Distinctly possible.

I would think so.  Just the threat of him running can cause a defense to approach a play differently.

With that being said it would still be nice to see our line improve.  Short of us adding a new person to the line our best chance is they start to gel at some point in the season.  Olines are one unit where a lot of people talk about continuity being important.  There is also a chance that Turner improves as the season goes on.  It is not unheard of for a rookie lineman to improve during his first year.

What concerns me the most is it seems some teams can cover up oline deficiencies better then us.  I would like to think we could slow up the rush somewhat with play selection or formations.

    • The SEC were not having GT upset Georgia at home. Horrendously corrupt officiating in this game - the non-PI on 4th down and the non-targeting call on the King fumble. Good lord.
    • I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
