Steve Smith Is ON WFNZ Having A Confessional, Won't Let the Story End

So did my father, missed my graduation. But in the military you knew that going in. Completely different from being under contract with a team that you've carried on your shoulders for the last decade. And then they conspire behind your back to get rid of you.

Clearly your dad hasn't told you about all the politics that happens in the military. You just lost what little respect I have for you. You picked the wrong argument. I would just shut up now.

Nope never been top 5 at anything but what I have done is spend 27 months in Iraq and Afghanistan and missed birthdays and anniversaries so really. Stop fuging whining.

Thank you for what you do and I think almost everyone would agree with that, but my point is Steve was at one point probably the best WR in the leauge, will most likely be in the HoF. People cant compare their lives to his, he went from being poor in a not so great neighborhood in LA went and played Community College football, got a chance to go to Utah, and got drafted jn the later rounds of the NFL and now look at him. Football is real life to them, itd their living, most players the money they make has to last the next 40 years of their life. I can't get mad at him for not taking a pay cut or try and compare my traveling work with his cause its apple and organges. He is a top 5% in the world football player. I am not in that category in my job. If I was I would be paid as such

When he signed his contract he knew what he was getting into also. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL or in life.

It's over now. No matter how much either side wants to cry or editorialize about it.  I don't blame Smitty for being angry, and I think that it's easily understandable and justifiable.  But now it's just time to move on. He did his job, we didn't do ours. We have bigger fish to fry.

Tells me about it all the time, he's actually in California right now missing the Panthers season. He complains about it, but he also knows it's what he signed up for. Trust me he's been in since before my creation, I know all about what goes on.

My how attitudes about 89 have changed, yet he has remained unchanged.

Funny how that works.

I think the term "sports fan" comes from a Latin word that has the same root as the word for "hypocrite"

And be honest JR, I'm pretty sure your attitudes about Terrell Owens shifted a lot between his Cowboy days and his Eagle days.

uh you know who originally brought up the "oh yeah well what if it was you?" argument right?

so the trajectory has gone

1. try to make the situation personally relatable

2. withdraw the scenario when people actually do personally relate to it and point out inconvenient facts

3. try to argue now that the situation is nothing like your life and you shouldn't try to relate to it because you don't get it

seems massively self contradictory to me

What?

Likened himself to a Doberman Pincher or Rottweiler (and I think) the Panthers as a young pup!

Man he's full of quotes.

Just finished at 12:26 pm Weds, October 1st. Wow!

What do the Ravens think about him doing this, when his a teammate of them right now?

I believe you are mistaken about Steve calling himself a Doberman, Rottweiler and the Panthers were just a young pup.

This is how I heard it:

Frank asked him what kind of dog the Panthers would be, and Steve wouldn't answer.

Then Frank said "would they be a stray dog?"

Steve "Nah, they (Panthers) would be a Pit bull, Doberman, Rottweiler, but they are still a young pup."

He took his shots a Gettleman and Rivera but not the Panthers as a team or overall organization.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
