He went into GREAT detail on everything else.  He even mentioned Luke when he listed the players he had "respect" for on the Panthers.

 

He didn't mention, Cam.  You think he ACCIDENTALLY missed that detail? 

 

It wasn't an oversight.

 

I think he went into great enough detail with Cam, mentioning Newton didn't know he was cut; the letter; their text to each other, and the fact that they wouldn't hang out together with their age difference.

 

Regarding the guy's he respected/named; correct me if I'm wrong, they were all defenders (especially when he talked about blocking them)?

Listened to Bill Voth on The Mac attack this morning. So basically, Smitty Was Insubordinate (and you could kinda hear him acknowledging that in his interview). Gettleman asked him to calm down, be professional. Smitty didn't heed the warnings. So Gettleman cut him loose.

The last GM we had was everybody's friend.  Where did that get us?

 

Belichick is the Patriots de facto GM, and he's far from the only guy with a rep for being a jerk.  Likewise, the Steelers are known to let popular players walk all the time.  That's two of the more perennially successful franchises in the league.  An all business approach doesn't seem to be hurting them.

 

To tell the truth, having a players coach (the guy directly dealing with the players most frequently) and a GM who's all business (the guy who has to make it all work) is actually an ideal combination.

All of the people we cut or didn't re-sign it is amazing that Smith was the only one that apparently got disrespected.

Getts reportedly had a meeting with Smith after the combine to clarify his comments and the Jerry Richardson personally took him out for breakfast or lunch, or dinner to talk to him about how appreciative he was for what he had accomplished just days before they released him. So the idea that Smith wasn't in the loop is highly unlikely.

Now... did everyone else get that kind of treatment? Very doubtful.

So much of what Smith says reeks of BS. I am not buying it.

 

Well Captain replied to question asking about everyone leaving Carolina with "it's a long story", but other than this I think Ginn stated he wasn't offered a new contract or even had communication with the Panther's management before Arizona offered him a deal, and didn't Beason learn he was traded through Twitter before talking with management as well?

Interviewed Steve Smith earlier this evening. His thoughts on:

The Panthers releasing players like Jake Delhomme and Brad Hoover:

"First of all, it's a business. Unfortunately guys were released. That's sad news. I lost some friends. My wife lost some friends who are moving away. That was unexpected. But one day, I'm going to be released as well. It's part of the game."

If it came as a surprise:

"Every year...there are some surprises. To say one was particularly surprising...this is a 'what you have you done for me lately' league and 'you're only as good as you're last game.' So hearing this on our team or another team, it doesn't surprise me. You can retire, get cut before you retire or get hurt. It's going to happen."

He's getting a little more politically adept, as you would expect of the team's union leader. Smith simply said "I lost some friends" about all the Panthers' personnel moves, noting: "One day, I'm going to be released as well. It's part of the game."

 

So apparently when other people get released, "it's a business" and that's just "part of the game".

 

But now it's personal.
