Steve Smith Is ON WFNZ Having A Confessional, Won't Let the Story End

There was no lying about that. It was classless. Maybe Rivera just doesn't do well with confrontation or conflicts, but there is no excuse. All Smitty wanted was some feedback and insight. "How do you feel about things?" That would be like having a good friend at your work who happens to be a supervisor and management decides to fire you, so your friend cuts you off.

You all think that is acceptable? Lol. A lot of people are claiming sour grapes on Smitty's behalf, but if you ask me, the way a lot of our fans have turned on him for being unceremoniously kicked from the team, that shows who is really sour.

I didn't hear anything to suggest he was making it up or that it was colored in his own narcissistic perception of things. It sounded very straightforward and honest.

Some of ya'll trip me out... you act like our franchise is infallible and wouldn't possibly mishandle the situation. And usually, it's the same people that were posting "just be patient, there's plenty of season left" every time Fox started a mediocre 7-9 season and then Rivera as well. I don't understand. I bleed black and blue. The Panthers are in my DNA, but they ain't paying me to toe the company line. They are humans. They can become involved in personal disputes and spats. They can make mistakes.

Very well said. Smitty had his issues as a young 20 something when we drafted him. As a mature family man now that simply isn't the case.

And yes the butt hurt and sour grapes is embarrassing to Panther fans. Well, some of us.

All of the people we cut or didn't re-sign it is amazing that Smith was the only one that apparently got disrespected.

Getts reportedly had a meeting with Smith after the combine to clarify his comments and the Jerry Richardson personally took him out for breakfast or lunch, or dinner to talk to him about how appreciative he was for what he had accomplished just days before they released him. So the idea that Smith wasn't in the loop is highly unlikely.

Now... did everyone else get that kind of treatment? Very doubtful.

So much of what Smith says reeks of BS. I am not buying it.

Mature family man?

A mature family man wouldn't embarrass his children cursing on television.

A mature family man wouldn't rip on the organization that put a roof over his children's head and food on his children's plate.

A mature family man would act with class instead of bitterness when jr (who btw owns the organization) treats him like a son.

A mature family man would teach his children what the classy thing to do in this situation.

Smitty is anything but a mature man. Listen I'm a panther fan because of smitty. I looked up to him growing up being that short kid who could ball and had everybody doubting me on my way to a college scholarship. I idolized the man through everything. I understood the cut, I understood it was about handing the team to cam and I understood the cap, and I didn't like the way dg treated smith on his way out.

But from this day forth I no longer respect or consider smith a part of the panther organization and I am hoping he doesn't retire a panther. What he just did on that radio show was basically spitting in the face of jr and the entire panthers organization. He can go fug himself

A mature person doesn't need to be coddled and have his little hands held and nose wiped because we are making very tough decisions.

Most players just get a call to the GM's office and is told "you have been released, good luck"

Not meetings and dinner with the owner

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
