Steve Smith Is ON WFNZ Having A Confessional, Won't Let the Story End

For those that want the cut throat, get out the door GM. Be careful what you wish for, I don't see players lining up wanted to come here after this. Steve Smith is well respected in this league. It's cute how some of you just dismiss him as a liar tho.

Hasn't hurt New England.

one thing i just thought of is that gettleman might not even so much as acknowledge this publicly which i'm sure is going to drive steve insane

He probably won't.

Rivera already dismissed the question when asked.

I mean, it does imply he's lied about how everything went down.

Don't think a response is that crazy.

A response of "I think I proved I still have something in the tank" when asked about it would not have been crazy.

A response of "he said this and this and this and that about me and they all hate me but I put the nail in their coffin now mow my lawn and I'm gonna tell everybody what you said about me so there" is a tad immature.

Which is why you will soon hear Dave Gettleman calling up to Baltimore area radio stations to start bitching about steve smith portraying him unfairly.

Oh wait, you won't.  Because that's not something a mature adult does.

Steve didn't treat him unfairly so that would be more of a reason as well as he doesn't work in Baltimore so no need to call Baltimore.

what makes steve great and awesome and a real man's man for aggressively doing what he wants and telling anyone who gets in the way to fug off yet gettleman is an asshole and a terrible person for the same thing

Smith has always been a double-edged sword.

O yeah I'm not saying that, he definitely dove a little too deep. He should've just said something like "just to clarify, I did not asked to be released but that situation is in the past, I'm a Raven now blah blah"

So calling into a local radio show unprovoked to poo on basically everyone you used to work for on the air is being a man?

Am I missing something?

Yes you are missing something. He called to refute the Ian Rappaport article saying he was a distraction and asked to be traded. I'm not defended Steve Smith at all. There's 3 sides to every story. I'm just concerned that if this is how Dave Gettleman does business it's a problem.

I don't have a problem with Smitty being gone. I like our receivers...Shula is the problem. But that's a story for a different thread.

He's acting very immature about this.  Yes, our FO could've handled it better but at the end of the day, it's a very difficult thing to cut a franchise cornerstone.  There wasn't really a right way to do it.  He's hurt, I understand it.  I'm sure everyone understands it.   He's a professional and he should be acting like one.  Calling a local radio show to defend yourself from a few tweets is very narcissistic and immature.

He must really "love" his former teammates like TD and CJ and D-Will, who had absolutely NOTHING to do with his slap-fight versus DG, to go out of his way to subject them to yet ANOTHER week of questions about "As The Smitty Turns" when they thought they had finally left that drama behind them for good.

What a teammate!

That mature/immature poo is way overblown.

That's what immature people always say. When a person is immature, they don't care or even understand what's going on around them. They only care about their point of view, their own perspective, and how they feel in the moment. When I was 20 I thought I knew everything about everything, I'm 43 now and realize I didn't know jack back then. Steve Smith is 35 and should know showing your ass is never the best way to handle any situation.

Who ends up better off from doing this? Smith doesn't end up better off, the fans of Smith aren't better off, Carolina and Baltimore aren't better off so why do it? Because it makes Steve Smith feel better, which is the immature way to react. Sometimes the "bigger man" is the one who walks away from an insult. He had a huge game against us but is that enough? Nope, he talks crap on the side line. Was that enough? Nope....he talks crap in the post game press conference. Was that enough? Nope, he calls in to local Charlotte radio to talk more crap. When is enough, enough? A mature person would easily be able to answer that question...the problem is apparently Smith doesn't know the answer - which is probably the biggest reason he isn't a Panther right now.

O yeah I'm not saying that, he definitely dove a little too deep. He should've just said something like "just to clarify, I did not asked to be released but that situation is in the past, I'm a Raven now blah blah"

And see, here's a prime example of why Smitty's version of events is suspect.

After the game was over, Ron Rivera actually went over to the opposing locker room (something that hardly ever happens), sought Smith out, shook his hand and told him he hoped his family was well.

To most people, that's a respectful gesture.

Smith's response (quoted from the interview via The Red Zone)

“Every time I keep reading stuff and reports come out, I just think I was stabbed in the back,” Smith said. “Just like coach Rivera said he wasn’t a sore loser, but yet he never even spoke to me through the whole ordeal. Not one time. He didn’t look at me man-to-man and said this was going down. He said he’s a players’ coach but he never came in and said, ‘Hey Smitty, this is going on. Wanted to give you a heads up.’ He hid in his office.

“Then you come at the end of the game and I play decent and then you come and shake my hand and say, ‘Congratulations. I hope the family’s well. Good luck.’ But we were supposed to be boys and respected me. You would have done it from the jump. You don’t do it at the end. And then you tell the media. Why? So you can look a certain way.”

Smith redefines a nice gesture by Rivera as something done for image only.  Consider, however, that Rivera didn't go looking for the cameras or make a big deal about going to find Smith.  In fact, he didn't do anything to try and publicize it at all.

Smith, on the other hand, called a radio station far away from him that doesn't cover his current team specifically to talk about himself and how he saw things happening.  He made it a story when it wasn't one.

That is the response of a total narcissist.
