Steve Smith Is ON WFNZ Having A Confessional, Won't Let the Story End

Honestly if the panthers can't win this year, the next best thing I would like to see is Smith get his ring. But I don't know if it is worth it watching the ensuing riot that will take place here.

Maybe Smith's career as a productive player wasn't over, but his career as a productive Panther player was, or at least it seemed to be. He looks much more motivated on the field right now. The only time I felt he played as hard as he is this year in 2013 was against Janoris Jenkins and Aqib Talib.

You know what else is good if the Panthers can't win this season? Making the move to go ahead and get out from underneath Smitty's huge contract

God I hope he is. That's my kind of GM.

I think he's exactly the kind of guy that would cut a player regardless of history or emotional connection to the team.

And yeah, I feel pretty good about that.

The idea that he'd talk to someone the way Smith claims he was talked to though?  Not buying that at all.

Note: He did not mention Cam, when asked after about the guys on the team he respects (after naming several players). However, that could have been an oversight, since he had just addressed Cam, and though he moved on regarding that subject.

He went into GREAT detail on everything else.  He even mentioned Luke when he listed the players he had "respect" for on the Panthers.

He didn't mention, Cam.  You think he ACCIDENTALLY missed that detail?

It wasn't an oversight.

To me the biggest issue in all of this BS is whether or not Gettleman is really this shady and underhanded.

I would find that a person like that is what the Panthers need, in a way, to change things up.

The business side of the game has wen lost for awhile here in the GM position.

Loyalty is one thing, but the business side has to out weigh that after awhile.

I think that's what we have now in DG.

Put yourselves in Steve shoes and listen to how things went down. That would hurt any of us.

It's impossible for me to put myself in his shoes in this scenario, because if I were in his shoes, I'd still be a Panther because I wouldn't have been such a massive dick that I needed to be cut.

Agreed.

Why did Steve feel the needs to call in?  This has to be the first time I've ever heard of a professional athlete calling a radio station on his own terms to "set the record straight."  I feel somewhere down the line GMan told Smitty's agent that he appeared to have lost a step, lost of some of his competitiveness or whatever and told his agent Smitty would be evaluated.  The agent twists this with typical agent speak, Smitty gets worked up (as he always does) and now we're here.

I also felt like Garcia was tooling around to encourage some of those responses.

Not too many guys that have meant what Steve did to this organization have been let go by their teams the way he was.

Maybe Smith needs to put a uniform on, grab a rifle, and spend a month out in the poo in Afghanistan getting paid $25K per year to gain a little perspective.
