Steve Smith Is ON WFNZ Having A Confessional, Won't Let the Story End

Looks like the situation was handled even worse than I imagined. Smitty doesn't have any love lost for Rivera/DG....

If what he said was true about Rivera.....then I definitely have less respect for him now than before....and it's not like that was all that high anyway.

Ultimately, I believe it went down pretty much how Smitty said... but, I just don't see how this was beneficial for anyone involved. Like I said, he just postponed his retirement ceremony/induction to the ring of honor by YEARS.

I understanding venting and it being therapeutic, but sometimes you just have to let sleeping dogs lie... even if you were wronged, sometimes (with the long-term in mind) you gotta let it go.

You know what would be great at this point?

The Panthers right the ship, make it to the Super Bowl, and face the Ravens

The hype that would surround that would be beyond epic

You think Smitty is going to last that long?  He just had his Superbowl.  Dont think he will be able to keep up the whole year.

Gettleman quotes, per the OP...

Do you really believe those things were actually said to him?

Isn't it more likely that this is how an emotional guy like Steve Smith would perceive what was being said to him?

I'm sure we are getting the way Steve perceived things. That doesn't make it inaccurate. He said he never spoke to Ron. How does a franchise guy like Steve never talk to the head coach before being released? This entire situation, starting with Gettleman's comments at the combine, was a mishandling far worse than the 7 second pause.

You can hear the emotion in Steve's voice, this isn't Steve spinning a story, he is talking from the heart. If he misinterpreted anything, which i assume is your suggestion, how does your 13 year vet get released without ever clearing the air?

Everything we know about Smith's personality, Gettleman's personality and Rivera's personality is completely antithetical to these stories being true.

I think even you would have to admit that Smitty is a raging narcissist, and a narcissist's version of events that happened to them is rarely very much in line with reality.

The emotion involved actually makes me less likely to believe his story, not more so (especially given what we know of his personality).

Dude had a few scuffles in camp with other grown men. It's hilarious to me how many people are trash talking about Steve's "record" of hitting teammates when he hit 2 guys in 13 years in the heat of battle and on the other hand are defending Greg Hardy to the very last for putting his hands on a woman and being a general piece of poo even before that event. Steve has done more for this community in Charlotte than any one of you could ever dream, too.

Whatever, man. I know where the real fans are. If you don't love Steve you've got a fruitfly memory of all the amazing things he did for this team and the loyalty he showed this market when things were looking terrible. How many legit number one WR would have handled the decline of Jake, the Pickles era, the Matt Moore era, the David Carr era, the Vinny Testaverde era, the Brian St. Pierre era without going public to the media and demanding to be traded to a contender or at least a place with a real quarterback? If Steve doesn't make the HOF it'll be because he didn't do that and go chase a ring when things got tough here. And for all that, WE bailed on HIM when he showed the first sign of slowing down.
