From what I gather, Steve felt compelled to call in and respond based on the belief that Rappaport's report about him asking for a release was leaked by the Panthers.

It may have been, but his rant is based on a HUGE assumption. It's just as likely (if not more likely) that Rappaport made up the story himself citing unnamed sources just to have something to say because he's the "Insider".

I also just heard some post game audio from him talking about "Putting a nail in the Panthers coffin" and "take your ass back to Carolina and mow my lawn". The only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore winner and I'm unfortunately losing respect for Smitty by the day.

Steve says Rivera "hid in his office" when he was released, yet Rivera made a point to walk over the the Ravens locker room after that ass-whipping to congratulate him and express his appreciation.

I will always appreciate what Steve did for Carolina, but it sounds like he needs to ice up his vagina and move on.

He randomly called a local radio show from vacation to vent about rumors he read on social media of his pending release over a month before it happened. It's what he does.

They're winning and he's playing great. It took them kicking and screaming to do something about Ray Rice, you think they'll care about this? They're getting used by him, but it benefits them so they won't care.

Gross, per his own words, was asked to stay on for another year when he said he was going to retire.

 

Correct, however he was also asked to take a pay cut the previous year with the voidable years added on. Retirement was clearly on the cards. I'm sure he didn't like it but ultimately he decided to remain and retire a Panther. They are both obviously different scenarios. Gross was ready to hang them up, Smitty wasn't and wasn't prepared to play at a discount.

 

Both guys were here for 10 years. Very rare indeed, we can be proud of both players but they can't play forever even if last year was one of Gross' best. Smitty is defying the odds today but last year he looked like he might be nearing the end. Not 1 game with 100 yards receiving and pulling up with a PCL with no contact. I can't blame Gman for trying to make a prudent decision but these last two games haven't been good for Panther PR.
