There is only one reason for the failure. Defense cannot get off the field due to no pressure from the DEs to make the QB step up, and teams are running directly at Star and using him as the read for the RB.

17 drives for the defense. 8 TDs, 5 FG attempts, and 4 punts. Allowing more than 50 yards per drive. No turnovers. No sacks. And this is the worst one - the defense is making the offense start on average at the 20 yard line over the past 2 games.

The offense has exceeded drive production compared to all winning teams in 2014.

So, it is not the offense. It is the position the defense is placing the offense in. Go look at the production of offenses starting at the 20 and trailing. The panthers offense is exceeding that.

I just don't want cam to take a season ending injury. It also looks like his ankle isn't fully healed because he can't really cut like he used too

The original post is spot on and I think in a way have led to what has become an even bigger problem, which is the injuries. That may prevent us from running any suggested fixes. I want Cam to be Cam as much as the next guy (even if we have an otherwise solid offense in general, it becomes one more thing that opposing defenses have to prepare for) but as long as he's banged up he probably can't be himself. The poor performance of the offensive line has led to him getting beaten up in my opinion. 

 

I like the idea of running those short routes, but that's only going to work for so long if it's all we have that does work. It's a good idea, I think, but we're back to being screwed quickly after halftime of the game we try it if it doesn't lead to defenses giving us something else.

 

I'm really starting to think that a roster move of some sort for better offensive line talent is probably going to be the fix at this point. Surely there's a free agent somewhere or practice squad guy somewhere that can do the job better than what we have.

 

What I think is actually happening, though, is that there is a "fugitall, we're playing for next year right now" attitude and this season is going to be a 7-9 throwaway year that sets us up for better things in the future after we bring in some more fresh talent in the 2015 draft.

I may be wrong, but this looks more like Shula trying to force Cam into his system rather than build a system to suit Cam. Why would you draft a QB with the first pick then change the way that he plays? Either Shula needs to adapt (we know it's not happening) and retool the playbook around what Cam is best at, or he needs to go somewhere else.

You can't blame Shula for being Shula. The team knew going into the season he wasn't all that creative or able to out coach his opponent. What he can do is provide a steady, efficient, clock eating offense if his players are executing properly. The players are currently failing him.

 

the problem is we don't need a slow moving, clock eating offense when we're down by 14. that's his problem.

what he meant is that in the beginning the Panthers knew exactly what they were getting in Shula..  an OC who couldn't adapt playcalling, style and philosophy, and therefore, the initial blame goes on the hiring of Shula...

 

 

If Shula is the OC next year,the Panthers deserve every loss they ge,t  caused  by his inept failure to game plan correctly and make proper ingame  adjustments.

Good points.  I think we are getting out coached on all fronts.  How can our O line be THIS bad without coaching being a factor?

The last couple of games, the team has been competitive right before someone does something stupid and causes momentum to go off kilter.

 

This team is so dependent on making sound decisions that any slight change in the game that doesn't go in our favor really drags them down and snowballs.

 

That's a leadership issue. Not just with the coaches, but the players as well. 

 

I agree on the leadership issue.

 

There are players with Cs on their jerseys that walk around like the universe has collapsed.

 

Things happen, and players have to  ' pick themselves up, and keep trying.

 

i don't see a lot of that with the 2014 Panthers.  It's 'woe is me'    'this is just so hard'    'hey i'm getting paid'    'there is always fill i the blank'   That's what it looks like from a schmuck who pays to watch them.

 

Crap happens in life, period.  You have to pick yourself up, one foot in front of the other and go forward, not backwards, forward.

 

Another point is also correct, we have the wrong offense because if this team gets down, offensively, it can't come back and maybe the players know this, I don't know; but, something is really wrong and it can't all be Greg Hardy or losing Gross or even Smith.  

 

These players are men, not little boys.    Act like it.
