Rivera: Panthers Tempted to Unleash Cam?

Fox007

Recommended Posts

The "unleash" Cam comment is ONLY about wanting him to run more.  They have been trying to hold him back from doing that because they didn't think he was healthy enough.

Anyone that can read that statement and think anything different is just looking for a reason to hate the coaching staff/FO.

I don't think anyone really has to change the intended meaning to find extreme frustration with the statement made....

because unleashing Cam is not fixing the problem...  And trying to use Cam's running ability to mask all the problems on offense and defense is a very frustrating thing to hear...

Man, the problem is NOT FIXABLE.  Our o-line stinks.  We have/had no money to buy better o-lineman.  Cam is going to add another element.  It should help. At this point, a mask or band-aid is what we need until we can upgrade the line.

Yes, it's frustrating our o-line stinks. They are trying to make adjustments to cover for their obvious weakness.  It's not easy to cover up a shitty o-line.

Get a better scheme; players, and/or reduce Shula's role or fire him!

It's that simple.

Giants had similar problems last two season (no OL, RB's, and a QB who couldn't throw short to save his life, though Cam is much better than Eli at that).

Giants proceeded to hire a different coordinator and philosophy to "shake things up", and it's done wonders at the moment.

That's what good, or desperate teams do.

Highlighted items #1:  These two aren't something you can do in the middle of the season.

The NYG who have 25 more total yards than us?   Carolina has 100 more passing yards with only 4 more attempts.  NYG average 120 rushing yards a game, Carolina 70 rushing yards per game.  Scheme and O-coordinator didn't fix that.  O-line did.

So, Ron wants Cam to be his QB and RB? It's like some of us said a year ago; Cam is the offense. Honestly though, with this o-line, Cam will probably be much safer moving around. He is getting blasted in the pocket.

Agreed.

And I only want Cam running when he has a clear lane. Otherwise; throw the ball away.

At this stage, I want him to reduce his hits, and be more of a pocket passer exclusively.

If Cam has space and can pull off a big run, opening up the passing lanes; then great! However, I don't want to see the Cam work horse of his first two seasons (especially first half of 2012 with all the Read Option Crap).

Cam has proven he's a very good pocket QB when given the time. Now find his some players on OL, or RB, and/ or a scheme to execute with.

Do you know how bad the Giants were the past few seasons offensively??

no poo it's not fixable..  I'm merely pointing out that constantly diverting away from the problems doesn't need much to provoke extreme frustration by changing the meaning of a title..  Simple as that.

whether the OL is fixable or not doesn't changed that.  The diversion has been set on benching Melvin White, talking about the need of a vet RB, unleashing Cam..

That's enough to frustrate most fans when they hear the coach talking about solutions that really doesn't impact the problems...

I don't know why we can't keep it a nice balance for him as it's always been.

Why not give him 2-4 designed runs in the game but trust him to know when to stay in the pocket vs. escaping it (which is most of the time with this OL).  It makes sense if he's still lingering over his injuries to tell him to stays pocket focused but if he's been able to be "unleashed", why the fug haven't we been doing so?  At least give him 2-4 designed runs a game and be cool with him extending plays which doesn't always warrant a run.

Actually, the G-Men have had as many (maybe more) problems with the OL as we have.

Their veteran 4-time Pro Bowl, 3-time All Pro OG retired (Chris Snee).

Their big off-season free agent OL signing, Geoff Schwartz, was injured in the preseason and is out until November.

They have a few first-year starters on that line this year and they've had some problems.

The run blocking is worlds better than ours.  Do you think Rashad Jennings is a world beater?  He's not.  He has 340 yards.  That's more than our whole team.

Then if they're able to run the ball with an OL not appreciably better than ours with backs of little note, what does that tell you?

It says it might have something to do with a word that starts with the letter "S" and ends with the letter "cheme".
