I'm surprised this many people have never tried Dickel

I'm not really surprised. When I first started mentioning it a few years ago, seems like no one had heard of it.

 

Part of it is that they did essentially zero marketing up until recently. You'd see Jack, Maker's, Bacardi, Smirnoff, Absolut, blah blah blah advertised anywhere they'd allow while Dickel quietly sat on the shelf.

 

Frankly, GD (as a brand and the manufacturing itself) was horribly mismanaged in the 90's-00's resulting in more supply than demand. The distillery was closed for a few years. It's kind of the red-headed step-child of the Diageo corporation, but I wouldn't have it any other way. They seem to leave GD to their little distillery out in the middle of nowhere to do what they do.
