I went to a local ABC store and picked up a bottle of George Dickel for cooking but decided to try how this $18 bottle of whiskey tasted... oh my world...  this is very good quality whiskey for that price...  I've spent $80 on a bottle before that tasted no where near as good.  If you ever at ABC store next time, just give it a try.

I'm a whiskey/ jagermeister gentleman drinker and every now-then rum. I shall try that brand out!

At first I didn't see how Dickel was that impressive.  Then I kept reading . . . SoCo and Captain Morgan?  Really?  In whisky thread, at that.

Been a while since I have sampled G. Dickel. Not a bad bourbon but I tend towards the Kentucky tipples.

George Dickel isn't bourbon. It's Tenessee whiskey since it's A) put through the charcoal mellowing process and is made in Tennessee.

No. 8 (black label) is a bit spicy for my tastes...

 

But No.12 is about as good as it gets for the price.

 

I discovered Dickel when my wife and I decided to take a little road trip for my birthday and stopped by the distillery for the tour.

 

The process they use to make Dickel is comparable to Gentleman Jack - possibly even exceeding it as memory serves.

 

And from what I hear, everyone who lives in the Lynchburg, TN area drinks Dickel rather than Jack Daniels.

 

I always try to bring a bottle or two back to the Netherlands with me when I make a trip back to the States.

I never drank whiskey for the taste. But Rarebreed Wild Turkey, and Rebel Yell are great alternatives to the usual Gentlemen Jack. I think Clinton was in office the last time I drank GD?
