Hardy being advised to sit out season

The NFL wasn't even thinking about the Hardy situation until the mess with Ray Rice happen. You can say what you want, but they both are two different situations that should be handled differently. One of them has hard evidence and the other has he say she say as evidence.

I understand they're two different situations, but in the eyes of the media, it doesn't matter.  Domestic violence is domestic violence.  They're on a witch hunt.

Already getting paid 13.1 million, so hey yea why not sit out, especially if he's coming back to a team not in playoff contention. The entire debacle has been a gigantic headache.

I would think if he's cleared to play and he refuses, that would be a breach of contract.

I just think that with all the BS going on, if you sit Hardy for 6 games and play him BEFORE he goes to trial, another sh*t storm is going to happen.  The media wants blood and 6 games isn't enough.  The NFL has shown it's going to protect itself by any means necessary, Hardy's not playing again until after his trial.  If they were going to go with the 6 game suspension, don't you think they would have announced it by now?????

 

He won't play, I agree.  But the media has had their fill.  They are satiated and no longer care about the story.  The NFL is happy for it to be behind them.  No way would it cause another poo storm.    Have you noticed there was absoletely no talk about Dwyer?  It was on the tail end of the media frenzy and then the coverage just stopped.  

 

The main reason we won't play Hardy is because of JR/Goodell's relationship.  Goodell wants it to remain tidy and make it appear he did the right thing.  JR won't go against him.

 

SF told him to fug off and they are sticking by their player.  Goodell left them alone.  JR won't do that.

Yeah this isn't Clowney in his last year with South Carolina.  He has to play if he's cleared.  Plus that is the dumbest advice ever if that were true.  Hardy has already seen his big payday take a hit with these accusations and so forth.  You are telling him to sit out without showing he's still capable of putting up big stats?  Those advisers need to be fired.

You have a few good points there.  Everyone handles things differently and I don't know enough about the SF situation to draw conclusions.  Your point about the media being satiated may be valid, but I think that with Hardy as one of the main 'culprits' in the initial media sh*t storm, the less he's around the better is the way the NFL is looking at it.  It's unfortunate for the team.

Who knows, Goodell was just making poo up and hoping it would make the media happy.  Not even one player was actually punished according to his new guidelines.

in the theoretical situation hardy is brought back to the active roster, yet refuses to play, I think the panthers are more than entitled to try to get their money back.

 

Also hardy's value on the open market is severely diminished already, I don't see what he has to lose by playing.

What rules? Technically, Hardy isn't being punished for any rule violations. Putting him on the exempt list is supposed to be the league helping him as he sorts out his legal issues. There are no rules or rule violations involved here.
