Rivera: Team Will Look for Veteran Help at Running Back

Here is the reality of the situation even if you don't accept it.  You don't have to like it.

 

The number one problem on offense is our lack of running backs.  When D-Lo or Stewart or Tolbert is healthy we can get by.  We were doing ok running the ball before D-lo got hurt.  This is also the biggest difference that can be make to our offense to improve it. 

 

I don't know that there is really anything out there to add to our offense live that isn't worse than we already have.  We do need some bodies.  Do yourself a favor and do not look at who we have behind Bell and Chandler.  You don't need any more nightmares this close to Halloween. 

 

The O-line just has to improve with the personal we have.  They have to coach em' up and they need to get some confidence. 

 

In my opinion Shula needs to adjust the offense to allow Cam to get the ball out faster and to have more checkdowns.  More 3-step drops.  Also, I really think that we'll do a lot better against a team that runs a traditional 4-3 defense.  Our line gets too confused as to what to do against a 3-4.  They're just to inexperienced and not communicating well when it comes to that.

 

On the defensive side, who knows.  I know Hardy being out affects the line.  I know TD being out hurts too but I really did not expect our D-line to get pushing around against the run like it has.  And to make matters worse, we can't get any pass rush and when we've blitzed against the Ravens Flaco was already passing to the spot the blitzer  had been guarding.  Blitzing Flacco with our secondary got us toasted but we at that point it we were trying anything to get some pressure.

 

I do have faith that the defense is something that Rivera and McDermott can fix.

Don't forget that even with a healthy Williams, and Tolbert last season, we still allowed Newton to be our leading rusher in 7 games.

 

Our run game has been becoming a concern for awhile now, and we leaned on Cam too much.

Few notable ones would be Benjarvis Green-Ellis and Felix Jones could be options. Then there's a young back like LaMichael James who could be a good addition to the RBs.

Shame Andre Brown is suspended for eight games and Rashard Mendenhall has retired, both could have been good pick ups.

Be interesting to see who they go for.
