At what point does Rivera consider the nuclear option...

Shula is not the problem.  Our O-line is the problem.  Why does have to be said repeatedly?

We cannot run because we cannot block and ALL of our RBs are hurt.  We cannot pass (consistently) because we cannot run and the defense can plan on pass rush only (AND our o line cannot block).

Firing Shula will do NOTHING to improve our offense.

because there's another way to view Shula than the idea that if the system works that the best strategy is to then fit square pegs in round holes with your personnel.

My problem with Shula is he doesn't seem to understand what balance is. He swings wildly week to week and overcorrects his gameplans. Run only 10 times vs the Steelers, wtf? Ok, lemme go the other way, let's run 26 times against Baltimore with a rookie UDFA.

C'mon dude, understand your personnel. Understand the O-line isn't that great and the ball needs to come out quickly, transition to a quick passing offense like SD and NYG have, throw digs, slants, hitches, smoke routes, DRILL into Cam's head that the ball needs to come out within 3 seconds.

He continues to call consecutive runs even though we're down 20+

I like Shula for the most part, but this is unacceptable,

I agree to an extent.  Late in the game, we ran a few times when it should've been a hurry up.  The reasoning was Cam had just took a huge hit and was slow to get up.  I'm guessing they ran to keep him from getting hit again.

Sean Payton was running the ball in the 3rd/4th qtr trailing by 17+ .  Nobody blasts him for it.

Even if the run game doesn't work, you HAVE to keep trying to keep the d-line honest.

I'm sure this option has been discussed.  Why haven't they transitioned to it?  I don't know.  My best guess is because none of our WRs match that offensive system.  That is built on receivers that have YAC ability.  We have none (unless you count P. Brown).

when you have receivers 6'2 and taller, you aren't forced to only throw bubble screens as your game plan...  you don't have to only use quick twitch receivers to run a quick passing play.

Rivera fired Brian Murphy, his ST coach, after the Denver debacle in 2012.

supposedly there have been times when a coordinator has been relieved of playcalling duties midseason but wasn't formally fired

it seemed like there was a point where fox was said to have taken over defensive playcalling from trgovac years ago

Don't think it would be in the best interests of the team to fire Shula right now, since we're running his playbook, but Rivera could certainly give Ramsdell a much more prominent role in both game planning and play calling (assuming he hasn't already) with the idea that eventually Ramsdell would take over the OC responsibilities.

I would agree if the playbook was complex but honestly there is not much complexity to what we do. A good OC should be able to take over tweak the scheme and be successful. The question is can Ramsdell do that.

You guys are talking about running a WCO.  We aren't suited for it.

We run slants.  We run hitches. We run quick outs.  Do you want us to run it ever play?

yes, obviously the only answer is to run a hitch, quick out, and slant every 3 plays...

Well, we just ran a hitch and a slant, so I guess it's time for a deep ball......

No wonder Shula can't utilize his personnel, he can't think past the 3rd play of the game....

Yea, you're right.  You obviously know better than the coach who is with the team everyday and knows their strengths/weaknesses.  I'm sure that nobody on the coaching staff has considered the idea of short/quick passes to take the pressure of Cam and the O-line.

Have you sent your resume in to the team?  I think you'd be a big asset to helping the team improve on offense.

Good point but is philly brown not exactly that? We have the personal I feel to run what we need just not the play calling.

simpletons just find it easier to blame a coach rather than their favorite players.

It seems not because we have yet to try it. Round hole, square peg seems the norm right now.
