Releasing Smith had the opposite of the desired effects

And what's the difference between Baltimore and Carolina?

One is a franchise with ownership that legitimately wants to win every year, and they have two Lombardi trophies to show for it.

The other is a pretender led by a league-first prick who cares more about the balance sheet than wins or losses, no matter how much he sheds crocodile tears at public events or how many full page ads in the local rag he takes out.

how would you have been able to tell? how do you quantify effort?

you don't think smitty's playing one iota harder in baltimore, or that he had in no way, shape, or form become complacent here, if still capable of producing numbers?

OK, maybe we're talking 103% Smitty versus 106% Smitty, you win.

Either way, we lose.

Its not just his effort on the field which has never been a question. Its the new chip on his shoulder (the old one was about worn out) From what I have heard he lost weight over the offseason and showed up to camp in better shape than he has been in the last couple of years. I expected this to happen. I have beleived from the moment I heard he was released that he would have a better year in Baltimore than he would have had here. Its a new challenge and a clean slate.

edit new page ownage

See there was just never a game where I questioned Steve Smith's effort on the field.

A great source of pride to me was Smitty's game on Sunday win or lose.

Right down to his very last game as a Panther.

We didn't really "need" Smith last year. Cam spread the ball around well plus we led in most games so we didn't need to pass.

I agree, however the Baltimore offense and Coaching staff is far better than Carolina's so you'd have to expect that.

i dont believe he was motivated at all to play here, and getting cut was the best thing that could have happened to smittys career at this point.

i cant imagine having smittys volatile personality on this team with the o-line situation and other dramas we are going through...makes me relieved he's gone.

i appreciate the entertainment he gave me for all those years, but the only legacy he left on the panthers is on the minds of fans, as he had absolutely no interest in helping anyone learn anything in order to make us a better team moving forward. kinda sad that less than a year removed, and as great as he was for us, that unless we are playing the ravens, its almost as if he never existed...out of sight, out of mind.
